Trump is positioning his base for a run at it. The press as an "enemy of the country" remark, the "fake media", etc.
It would not surprise me if he tried (and failed miserably).
I'm not saying Trump could not have said this, but has Comey confirmed this was ever said or is this the same memo a Comey associate told the NYT over the phone that the NYT admitted they'd never even seen to verify?

Trump to lunch with network anchors
.yeah, that's going to be awkward.By Hadas Gold/May 17, 2017
President Donald Trump is set to have an off-the-record lunch with network anchors on Thursday, two sources with knowledge of the plans and a White House official confirmed.
The lunch is expected to cover Trump's upcoming foreign trip. But with bombs reports about the Trump White House dropping nearly every day this week, the lunch is sure to cover more ground.
The get-together is expected to be much smaller than past lunches with the media. Ahead of his address to the joint session of Congress in February, Trump met with some two dozen anchors from cable, broadcast, Hispanic and other networks.
At least one anchor, Scott Pelley, is moving the CBS evening news show from New York to Washington on Wednesday and Thursday partly as a result of the lunch
??? That is not even remotely close of an answer to my question
hey, why doesn't he rehire comey?
that would be a blast!
"I'm not saying Trump could not have said this, but has Comey confirmed this [thing about potentially putting reporters in jail] was ever said or is this the same memo a Comey associate told the NYT over the phone that the NYT admitted they'd never even seen to verify? "
I don't know. You would want to realize there are probably more than one memo here, although the story indicated it was in the same memo where Trump asked Comey to drop it.
The New York Times published a story with details from a memo written by former FBI Director James Comey about a meeting he had with Trump in February. Although the memo has mostly generated controversy for Trump’s reported attempt to squelch an investigation of former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, the president also reportedly asked Comey to bring charges against journalists who publish classified information:
“Alone in the Oval Office, Mr. Trump began the discussion by condemning leaks to the news media, saying that Mr. Comey should consider putting reporters in prison for publishing classified information, according to one of Mr. Comey’s associates.”
Trump has talked about rolling back libel laws.
He has repeatedly called the media the "enemy of the country".
Talking about any excuse to put reporters in jail seems to fit.
Trump now saying those conversations never took place.
Let me think...who do I trust more...an orange ferret who views the truth as his enemy or Comey, someone with actual intergrity? Umm who wins out...need to think for this one..
The next level spin that TSA has been told to believe is that it was just a "suggestion", i.e what Trump "hoped" would happen.
The thing is Trump got EVERYBODY out of the room before engaging in this conversation. Almost as if he knew it would be improper.
"It wasn't really a request/order".
As if a "request" by the President never carries any underlying context.
I can see it now.
Trained FBI guy...
Real estate developer...

Man sued successfully for fraud...
^^ The question was about the AG or the DOJ. Not the President.
TSA cant get a win.
cnn already reported this and CNN is fake news. i'm therefore inclined to believe this recording is doctored
Acting FBI Director: 'No Effort to Impede' Investigation Into Russian Meddling
Acting Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigations Andrew McCabe told a Senate panel that ongoing investigations at the Bureau—including probes into any possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia—are still underway despite the President Trump's firing of Director James Comey on Tuesday.
“There has been no effort to impede our investigation to date," McCabe said in response to a question posed by Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida."You cannot stop the men and women of the FBI from doing the right thing, protecting the American people and upholding the Cons ution."

Show me the memo. Otherwise, rumor.
that's some funny there...![]()
Only a re would think that's funny...and as it happens that's what you 3 wholesome collective are.![]()
Comey, testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee on May 3, said — under oath — that he's never been pressured to close an investigation for political purposes.
A careful lawyer's notes are rather strong evidence of a conversation, despite what you may wish.
Of the two people in the room for the conversation between Trump and Comey, only one has any credibility with anyone.
Already addressed. Question didn't concern pressure from the Golfer-in-Chief.
Where's the memo?

Filed somewhere at the FBI, I would imagine.
