The worst playoffs in recent memory continue. Once again the Lakers will get a bye into the finals. I hope the league is happy, they'll get their ratings, but they'll continue to lose credibility.

It's a ing joke. Their size advantage is unfair. It would be one thing if they legitimately cultivated that size, but not the way they did it. When old man Bryant falls off a cliff in a few years and Gasol begins to decline, how will the league help them then? Because apparently they're not allowed to fall off. Everyone else can, the Knicks, Bulls, etc., but not their precious Lakers.

Whatever.

If one team is playing physical ball hawking, face pounding defense and the other is basically playing matador, "oops I fouled you, so sorry" defense there will be a disparity at the end of the game.

I don't know about you but I play 2X more physical defense than my opponent (which will result in many stops & turnovers) and the foul disparity doesn't even reflect that 2:1 ratio then I'm probably going to win the game and I'll gladly take that 1.5:1 ratio

Just wanted to chime in on this:

PJ,Gentry(and the rest of the NBA world) knew where the LAKERS were going to go defensively....right at JRich.
CHECK

Gentry figured that Frye's perimeter game was gonna make up for those points missed.
NOT

PJ figured that if Odum showed up he'd go off on our smallish bench's frontline.
CHECK

Gentry liked the Goran/LB vs LAKERS scrub guards matchup.
CHECK

Gentry didn't have a gameplan for getting points from our starting 5 minus JRich.

1) Where to get offense from our starters. (hint) Nash/Rolo P&R.
1a) Light a fire under Amare & set screens for Nash to become a shooter.

2) What to take away from the LAKERS
1a) Kobe? No.
1b) Odum? Good idea. Gonna have to channel Red Auerbach.
1c) Gasol? Possible. Lopez will only get stronger.
1d) Artest? He looked like a smart offensive player tonight. WTF happened
there? .

Start Goran on Kobe, keep Nash on Fisher(ugh),Hill on Artest,Amare on Bynum and Lopez on Gasol.

Bring JRich off the bench w/Barbosa,Duds,Lou & Frye. Who's gonna guard JRich off the LAKERS bench? Take the pressure off of Tissue Frye to score 20 and let him settle in.

If PJ counters by starting Odum(and bringing Ron Ron off the bench to snuff JRich) then we've got some matchups we can deal with in terms of Grant Hill maybe getting off with Odum in front of him.

LAKERS executed brilliantly tonight & the SUNS were flat out outplayed & outcoached.
I'm not conceding though. We'll respond.

Nice take. The only real disagreement I have is with Lopez being able to take Pau out of it. That's just not going to happen. Lamar absolutely beasted on you guys tonight though and that is something that you guys can at least improve upon.

Hill made him work a little in the 1st half, but the PHX team dfensive rotations were ty for the last 3 qtrs. Kobe got started in the 2nd half if i'm not mistaken.

Seriously, just because the suns shot 7 more free throws than the lakers (I'm not counting the 3 bonehead shots Hill got from Vuja ) doesn't mean . All that says is the lakers made the suns earn their points at the line while the suns stood aside and allowed the lakers easy paint points. Don't listen to re s like Lakerfan #24 and jonnybravo. I don't know about you, but I'd rather be the team not giving up easy paint points like the suns did. This of course can't be blamed on refs and must be attributed to the suns lack of pride & mettle.

The real issue is the foul disparity IMO 23-21 which favored the lakers when it should have favored the suns by a considerable margin, when considering the lakers played a much more physical brand of defense. Of the two, this is IMO a more important stat to look at as it means free possessions (and free throws once a team in the in the penalty).

I got called a whiny so naturally I'm going to defend myself. Whether its 6 hours later or 6 days later.

Apparently I needed to hammer home the point that being (-7) on free throws isn't as big of deal as laker fans are freaking out about. 90% of the time it simply means your not giving up as many easy baskets in the paint. And I didn't see any evidence to prove that wasn't the case in this game.

Yup, total b.s... if this game had been called the right way Hill would have had numerous stops on Kobe (and steals) it could have been close

I hate it when people about the "#'s" as if the everything must be equal for it to be fair.

If the officials let Grant Hill play defense, I highly doubt Kobe goes 13-23, he probably more likely goes for his standard 8-23

The most shocking aspect of this game was how the refs totally disrespected, gutted, filleted, mocked, and ultimately removed Grant Hill from being a factor in the game against Bryant defensively

Hill had a couple steals and clean stops at the very least that were called fouls. That's not even mentioning the basket they took away from him in teh 1st quarter for the phantom elbow to Fisher..

I'd say all the b.s they called cost the suns at least 10 points. Still not enough to win the game but all those freebies got the lakers juices and momentum going.. so figure a 16-18 point swing total thx to refs.

Add those points to the suns total and suddenly this game is only a basket or two difference

Refs aren't dumb, they've zeroed in on Grant Hill as the one player that can stop Kobe and give the suns the momentum in this series... and they aren't about to let that happen
