Backup 3 postion: Simmons seems like a smart player but he makes bogans look like ron artest. Anderson doesn't look impressive at all but what do you expect out of a rookie... he is no dejuan blair. Gee??????

    Temple looked absolutely horrendous btw.

You have to keep in mind that with players like Gist, Neal, Simmons....they are limited. Which is why they are fringe players. Every team has them. Sometimes they look good, sometimes they look bad.

That happens with your 12-15 players, on every team.
Gist is gone, Simmons is out of shape . . . I thought Neal was good.

I was a lot more impressed with Neal than I was Temple. Penney might have outplayed them both. All in all its just 1 game. A lot of these guys are nervous as . That's why I expected more out of Bobby tonight than some of the other guys.

I'm disappointed in Temple, expected to see more from him. Let's see what he does the next game.

Both Penney and Neal once they got their feet under them, they started to play well, hit shots, and make plays.

Jerrells played well, never really liked him that much (usually he takes bad shots) but tonight he played like a true PG and made some big plays down the stretch.

Parker, Duncan, Manu, Blair all looked good; Blair especially (8% body fat really shows)

I liked what I saw from RJ, still needs some work, but the new release looks quicker; still needs work on the defensive end

I think the Rockets should really consider trading Yao. He does not seem to fit their style of play and they should send him on his way while they could get good value.

The thing is, Temple showed very good things against NBA level players during the regular season. But again, he is limited so you will get nights like this from time to time.

Didn't Temple play for Houston for a while? I'm gonna give him the benefit of the doubt and say he probably had some jitters going against his ex team, mainly brooks.

I just hope Temple shows that he can still perform at a high level in the pre-season. It's going to be tough to keep a guy on because you know what he did last season when you have so many good prospects and limited spots on the roster.

Gist looked good imho he didn't look like a stiff out there, with some time i believe he will be the athletic 3/4 we lack.

You guys do know that Anderson was out for around 3 consecutive months with a hamstring injury doing absolutely nothing right? And that he was cleared to practice on the 1st of September.

Of course he's out of shape, not even Manu played well after returning from an injury.

Do the Spurs really have that many good prospects? I know I would trust a guy who has done it when it matters over a guy in preseason when it comes to evaluations like this.

I don't even know what to think of Gist. It's clear that he has improved tremendously since he has been drafted a couple years back but he still needs more work before we put him on the roster IMO. I hope he agrees to go back to Europe or something and we still own his rights.

    some positives from the game:

    1. spurs starters avg. +3 in +/- vs. only +0.2 for houston
    2. gary neal 3-6 shooting; 7 pts in 11 mins

side note: you need to play more than 6 mins to get into the game, so stop complaining about temple

I didn't see the effort. It wasn't just tired legs. And sucks for him because this is the time where he needs to go all out unless he's thinking about spending a season in the Toros.

I guess its to early to tell but if some of these guys like Neal,Simmons and your boy Cousins start and keep playing well than it could turn into a dilemma.

Gist is a defensive player. An energy guy that can rebound, block shots and guard a few positions. That is where the focus needs to be for him.

Guys like Hayes last a long time in the NBA with worse offensive games than him. Sure, the shooting and everything will help, but if Gist can become a consistent defender, he should earn a spot somewhere.

Cousins - Much better than anyone expected. Seems to know what to do on the court.

Penny - Early jitters. Got into stride. Seems to have good fundamentals and runs the offense well. I guess he's in top shape coming from the World's. Two defects - don't think he can defend by himself and inadequate athleticism to take it to the hoop. Otherwise, plays well at the perimeter.

Neal - Would like to have seen more aggressiveness and more moves in finding his shot. Made a mistake by fouling Martin on a pump fake. Like Penny, seems to not have the vertical to do well driving to the hoop.

Gist - Definitely going to get cut. Sloppy play, sloppy shot selection.

Temple and Anderson - Out of shape and out of sync.

Jerrels - Decent defensive, but doesn't know how to run the team.

Simmons - Is this a former MIP? Doesn't seem to have the agility and quickness I would expect.

RJ - I thought he worked to improve his game in the Summer? Could't see it.

What I mean by prospects is upside. Guys like Neal, Simmons, Penney have extremely limited upside imo.

The Spurs have some decent prospects, but not even that many good young ones. Neal, Penney and Simmons are all older.

Gee is interesting, Temple, CJ and now Cousin is a little.

    Neal is a find.

Anderson looks creaky and old. Whoever selected him better hope Damian James doesn't explode onto the scene.

He looks like he belongs at least not like that dude last year whose name escapes me who went back to Europe after a month or so.
