Max Olson @max_olson
Deoundrei Davis is Texas' first and perhaps only linebacker commit for this 2013 class. He'll play Sam linebacker for UT. #longhorns

So LB Deoundrei Davis has committed and is #7? I thought perkins was the only offer.
There was a lot of uncertainty on yesterday with offers. Im ok with Davis as a LB in this class. What does this mean for Hollins Jr, Wade, Mitc and more interestingly Hughes?
Blake Munroe @ITBlake
LB Deoundrei Davis has committed to Texas this morning. He's No. 7 for the Horns' 2013 class. #UT #Texas
Espn is reporting that LB Davis has committed as well.

Davis is in. He confirmed it personally to Hook Em 247. Texas has also offered Daeshon Hall.
Vonn Bell told J.C. Shurburtt, renewed SEC honk, that he would visit Texas before making a decision. Bell again spent 4 years in Texas as a child.
What great news to wake up to when it seemed like we'd have to wait a few weeks for more offers. Mack sent a message to Davis last night on Facebook around 10 p.m. with an official offer. Here are some quotes:
"They offered me last night. I slept on it, prayed on it and my heart and body told me this is the place for me," Davis said. "Meeting coach Brown, coach (Manny) Diaz and coach (Oscar) Giles, that just made me feel welcome. The whole Texas staff did."
"Getting my degree from Texas, being from Texas, being a Texas Longhorn has always been a dream of mine and now I'm making my dream come true."
"Texas has been my team since I was two years old when I started watching football. Being able to play for them, that's always a dream for me. They made it possible by offering me and now it's a dream come true."
"I feel like I can bring a great deal to the defense, have an immediate impact. My speed and my aggressiveness are my strengths," Davis said. "And I'm a ballhawk. Wherever ball is, that's where I'll be."
"I'm solid with my commitment to Texas. That's where I want to be," he said. "It's a good feeling. It's an even better feeling knowing that it's the school that I've always wanted to go to, the Texas Longhorns. I want to bring that national championship back to Texas, my home state."
If we actually get Vonn Bell on campus that'll be big! I personally like Bell, Cravens, and Luke better than our in state prospects. I think the coaches are gonna get a feel for these 3 guys before they offer the in-states. And in respect to the in-states, they arent to far behind the OOS talent wise.
It sounds like Texas offers DE Torrodney Prevot yesterday as well if his family had been in town. Only his high school coach accompanied him to campus.
Update on S Kameron Miles...he told OrangeBloods that his visit was great despite not receiving an offer and he's on the same page with Akina and the other coaches wanting to be patient with DB offers. He expects them by West Mesquite during the spring evaluation period and said as things stand now he's probably committing to Texas should an offer come his way.
Nice to hear his father say they're "definitely" visiting UT. Heard that kind of talk from others before obviously, but the interest seems genuine.
It's nice to hear that Texas is in a good position with Bell and Harris. Normally I would sayd well they're from Georgia and Florida, Texas doesn't have a shot, but Shiro Davis changed my thinking. If Akina can bond with those 2 young men, beyond football, Texas has a shot.
It seems like Texas handled the West Mesquite recruits very well. Neither were offered, but Texas moved up both their lists. That's salesmanship.
I think Texas should stay on Luke until he tells Akina no. Maurice Smith is a nice player, but he's not Cole Luke.
Texas should have a better idea of where they stand with Harris, Bell and Cravens after the summer. They can only get one, and they should focus on one and move forward in the fall.
I think Akina will maintain contact with Maurice Smith and Kameron Miles. I think Texas can pick up both late if the OOS options don't work out.

From Randy Riggs of the Statesman on Perkins:
Perkins, ranked by 247Sports as the No. 2 tackle prospect in the country and the nation's No. 20 overall recruit, could not be reached for comment Saturday night. But his Lake Highlands coach, Scott Smith , said the visit went well.
"I can tell you there was a big smile on his face," Smith said. "He had a really great time, let's just put it that way."
Perkins — who also has visited Oklahoma, Texas A&M and Baylor, and has offers from many other schools — has said he would not take any visits after Texas. Smith said there's no timetable for Perkins to make a decision.
"I told him to think about things and we can get together and talk more on Monday," Smith said.
I think Perkins is similar to all of the other guys that attended JD1. Mack told him to think on things for a few days and call back when he's ready. I'd be surprised if went past mid-week.
OrangeBloods reporting one of their sources has informed them that there is a fourth offer out after Perkins, Davis and Hall. It's definitely not Prevot because his mother was not in Austin yesterday and Giles wants to meet her first. Maybe Warrick?
I think Perkins would be the most natural LT on the Texas roster. Maybe the best LT in the past 5 years. Texas can build around Perkins and James. Get those 2 and then evaluate, evaluate, evaluate.
Gerry Hamilton was pretty darn confident that Warrick would get an offer. I'd say that's a good guess. I wonder how the Texas coaches go about meeting Prevot's mother? I assume Prevot would have to visit again.
Just to be different from Floss, Josh Thomas is my guess as the 4th offer given his post visit comments.
I hope a phone call to Mack is the end result of that Monday meeting.
Thomas apparently received a lot of love yesterday during spring practice. Not a bad guess at all even though I wish the staff would wait a little longer on him.
Bill-
Can you please post those comments from Thomas?
I agree. I think Maurice Porter should get an in person evaluation by Coach Searels before Texas moves forward with Thomas. They might end up taking both.
