Federal Appeals Judge Compares People Who Say Bush Lied To Rise Of Nazis

A federal appeals judge wrote in a column published on Sunday that people who accuse former President George W. Bush of lying about the Iraq War are peddling myths like those that led to the rise of Hitler.

Laurence H. Silberman, a federal appellate judge appointed by President Ronald Reagan, wrote in the Wall Street Journal that the idea the Bush administration "lied us into Iraq" has gone from "antiwar slogan to journalistic fact."

"[I]t is one thing to assert, then or now, that the Iraq war was ill-advised," he wrote. "It is quite another to make the horrendous charge that President Bush lied to or deceived the American people about the threat from Saddam."

Kockenstein Monster Scott Walker Deletes The Values Of Truth And Service From University Mission

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker has come under fire this week not only for proposing a controversial and unprecedented $300 million cut to the University of Wisconsin, but because his new budget deleted the values of truth and service from the University’s 100-plus-year-old mission and replaced them with the idea that the purpose of public higher education is “to meet the state’s workforce needs.”

Governor Walker’s edits erased language from the school’s founding principles — known as the “Wisconsin Idea” — that declares: “Basic to every purpose of the system is the search for truth.” The Governor also struck out the University’s goal of “public service designed to educate people and improve the human condition” and “serve and stimulate society.”

Kockenstein Monster Bobby Jindal’s New Plan Holds Up Struggling New Orleans Schools As Model For The Country

Louisiana Governor and likely presidential candidate Bobby Jindal (R) released his new “roadmap” for reforming K-12 education Monday morning, focusing on the importance of deregulating and privatizing public schools and holding up New Orleans’ nearly all-charter school district as a model for the nation.

“I’m proud we’ve increased the number of charter schools, nearly doubling them,” Jindal told an audience on Capitol Hill. “I get so frustrated when people tell us to wait for incremental gains. We have seen remarkable gains.”

But new data calls the supposed gains into question. The class of 2014 graduating from the 90%-charter New Orleans Recovery School District scored so low on the national ACT test that they didn’t meet the minimum requirements for Louisiana’s colleges. LA college? THAT's already a low bar!

According to numbers crunched by Louisiana public school teacher and doctor of statistics Mercedes Schneider, just over 6 percent of high school seniors in New Orleans scored high enough in English and Math to qualify for admission into a Louisiana four-year college or university straight out of high school.

Five of the district’s 16 high schools produced not a single student who met these requirements.

The district’s test scores were extremely low prior to Hurricane Katrina and the charter school conversion, but despite Jindal’s claims of “remarkable gains,” there has been only a 0.2 point improvement in New Orleans, and a 0.6 decline statewide.

Utah Puts Science Standards On Hold, Demands More Local Control Of Reality

the proposed science standards include too much darned science for some people’s tastes.

the Utah standards are coming under attack from conservatives who insist the multi-state model they’re based on, the Next Generation Science Standards, are tainted by liberal bias when it comes to climate science, which would be bad for those states’ coal industries.

in Utah, it’s not merely the climate stuff that’s “controversial,” but also the teaching of evolution, which was already in the state standards, but which some parents are telling the state school board’s Standards and Assessment Committee is pretty radical stuff.

Also, at least one angry parent wants to know why Utah even needs a bunch of science standards that were developed by a national committee, which clearly didn’t take Utah’s unique science needs into account

He said most of the participants on the 15-member review committee, which by statute includes appointees selected by the Utah Senate, Utah House and state school board, were culled from schools and universities.

“There were only a few people who carried the parent frame of mind,” he said. “All the others had been schooled in the framework of educational thought.

( In Repug/red state Utah, and probably in ALL Repug states, that's a negative! )

Neither Ellis nor Newmeyer articulated what exactly makes science work differently in Utah than other places, but apparently, physics, chemistry, biology, geology, and other scientific topics need to subject to local input. And god forbid educators should be the primary designers of educational policy.

Newmeyer believes Utah’s proposed guidelines took positions on controversial subjects, with students expected to accept as fact concepts that remain under debate — at least politically.

“That is true with global warming, that is true with Darwinian evolution and a number of other things,” he said. “It’s not a science class in these areas. It’s an indoctrination class.”

For Alabama Chief Justice, Soldiering in Name of God Is Nothing New

Chief Justice Moore, who was re-elected in 2012, has, and is once again the center of national attention after ordering Alabama’s probate judges not to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, despite a federal judge’s indication that she expects them to do so.

Chief Justice Moore, a confident, 67-year-old West Point graduate and Vietnam veteran, was unapologetic and firm in his position that the federal judiciary has seriously overreached in its effort to impose same-sex marriagein Alabama — a state where 81 percent of voters passed a cons utional amendment prohibiting same-sex marriage in 2006.

“If we accept this without contest, without standing up for what’s pure and simple cons utional law, then we, too, bow down to unlawful authority,” he said. “And that’s not the role of government leaders in the state.”

“Now we see the federal courts moving to take away ins utions ordained of God, and recognized by the people for hundreds and even thousands of years before this country came into being,” he said. The definition of marriage, he said, should not be left to federal judges.

“Courts are just people,” he said. “They’re just men and women dressed in black robes who have no power to re-declare, or declare, the social foundation of this nation as being uncons utional.”

Kansas governor rescinds protections for gay state workers

Kansas Governor Sam Brownback, a conservative Republican re-elected in November, on Tuesday rescinded an executive order issued by a Democratic predecessor that offered protections for gay and bisexual state workers.

Brownback said he was rescinding a 2007 order signed by former Governor Kathleen Sebelius that established a "protected class of rights" for state employees specifically for sexual orientation and gender iden y.

In its place, Brownback said he was issuing an executive order that would boost state employment-related aid for veterans and disabled people, while reaffirming the state's "commitment" to employment practices that do not discriminate based on "race, color, gender, religion, national origin, ancestry or age."

Montana Taliban: Republican lawmaker wants to arrest and jail women for wearing yoga pants

A Montana lawmaker wants to expand his state’s indecent exposure laws tooutlaw yoga pants and other tight-fitting or revealing clothing.

State Rep. David Moore (R-Missoula) introduced a bill Tuesday after stewing for months over a group of naked bicyclists who rode through his town in August.

Moore’s bill, which was drafted with retired professor Walt Hill, is intended to preserve Montana’s reputation as a “decent state where people can live within the security of laws and protect their children and associates from degrading and indecent practices.”

The bill would outlaw any nipple exposure by men or women, along with any clothing that “gives the appearance or simulates” the buttocks, genitals, pelvic area, or female nipple.

GOP lawmaker hopes to end Colorado program that lowered teen birth and abortion rates

Remember that Colorado program that offered birth control to low-income women and reduced the state's teen birth rate by 40 percent and abortions by 35 percent while saving the state millions of dollars? It's possible that all that will come to a stop—mostly because the program was the result of a grant that's ending and Republicans control the state senate.

the GOP holds a one-vote majority, abortion politics—and the Supreme Court's Hobby Lobbydecision—may scuttle the plan.
At issue are some abortion foes' beliefs that IUDs can cause abortions—the same belief that led to the Oklahoma-based hobby chain's lawsuit against the Obama administration's requirement that employers provide insurance that covers contraception or pay a fine. Most scientists say IUDs primarily work by preventing fertilization. But some IUDs can occasionally prevent a fertilized egg from implanting in a woman's uterus. Fertilized eggs often fail to implant, even without birth control, so most doctors define abortion as the termination of an already implanted pregnancy.

But many conservatives who believe human life begins at conception consider preventing implantation akin to abortion.

In the war on women, Republicans like Lundberg now aim to kill access to birth control too.

The Repug War on Women is fiercest on poor women (financially secure women, even Repug women, can still get abortions and birth control)

Nebraska Senator Stalls Gun Bill To Avoid Arming LGBT Military Spouses

On Tuesday, Nebraska Senator Dave Bloomfield (Hoskins) tabled a bill that would have extended conceal and carry privileges to military spouses, because the law could apply to same-sex couples. Bloomfield’s decision effectively kills the bill for this legislative session. Legislative Bill 190 would have granted non-resident military spouses the right to apply for conceal carry permits immediately, rather than requiring them to wait 180 days to establish residency. Current law permits non-resident military members to obtain a permit right away, but their spouses are not eligible for a conceal carry permit until they have acquired residency.

However, because the bill would defer to the military’s definition of marriage, some lawmakers became concerned that the measure would extend gun rights to same-sex military couples. The ensuing controversy over whether the bill would acknowledge the Defense Department’s definition of marriage, lead to Bloomfield putting the bill on hold.

like most Republicans who love liberty, Bloomfield draws the line at permitting same-sex couples to enjoy the freedoms other Nebraskans take for granted. As a conservative, Bloomfield no doubt thinks he loves individual rights, and by God, he probably believes he supports the troops as well. However, when push comes to shove, he places an even higher value on the freedom to discriminate against gays and lesbians than he does on the right to carry.

given the choice between standing up for gun rights and upholding discrimination against gays and lesbians, Nebraska has chosen to stand on the side of discrimination. Given an option between siding with military families or aligning with phobic bigotry, the author of the bill has stalled his legislation, revealing that his allegiance leans towards discrimination.

North Carolina GOP Looks To Raise Taxes On Students And Defrauded Homeowners

The proposal is among several changes attached to a broader tax measure that would lower the state’s gas tax by 2.5 cents. Another provision of the bill would end the state income tax deduction for tuition expenses — essentially a tax hike on college students.

Recent tax overhauls in the state cast an even dimmer light on the moves to extract more revenue from struggling homeowners and people working on college degrees. After conservatives swept state elections in 2010 with the financial backing of wealthy retail an Art Pope, they eliminated a key tax credit for the working poor.

The same law that raised taxes on low-income workers also lowered them for the wealthiest in the state by replacing the previous two-tiered income tax system with a flat 5.8 percent income tax rate for all earners.

The result of the tax code tinkering was a $10,000 tax cut for people who earn over a million dollars a year, paid for with a tax hike on the bottom 80 percent of North Carolina’s income distribution.

Got to agree with you here that this is really stupid. AP is a good thing and completely different from common core. Things might lean liberal because most schooling does but it doesn't only teach the bad things about America.

I would have hated high school if i had gotten stuck in regular history, science, and math courses.

Believers Of Ernst Hoax Say A Lot About Who We Are

Iowa Republican senator Joni Ernst telling a Des Moines radio host that Congress should outlaw vaccines because they “manipulate brains.

According to the story, the host asked Ernst to clarify, whereupon the conservative freshman explained that when they were children, she had a friend who was vaccinated, while she herself never was because her family couldn’t afford it.

The story quotes Ernst as saying, “Now, we grew up in the same town, went to the same schools, attended the same church, we even served in the military together. We’re practically the same, right? But he’s a liberal Democrat. He voted for Obama both times and he has a Hillary Clinton sticker on his pickup truck. He supports welfare and the gays. I’m not saying the vaccinations made him more liberal, but the vaccinations made him more liberal, do you get what I’m saying?”

“This simply HAS to be a joke.”

And it was. It turned out the story originated on National Report,

one of its headlines reads: “Car Owners Baffled as More Tampons Are Found in Mazda 6 Engines.”

A number of observers, including a handful of reporters, fell for the hoax, tweeting it to their followers as fact. As near as I can tell, the senator didn’t even bother issuing a rebuttal.

Then you consider the kinds of things people do routinely say and believe in this country and it becomes hard to be sanguine.

Didn’t a talk show host say the federal government is gearing up for a war against white people?

Didn’t a senatorial candidate say a woman’s body can protect itself from pregnancy in cases of rape?

Didn’t bloggers say Chief Justice John Roberts has ordered President Obama’s arrest for treason?

Didn’t a PAC accuse the president of a plan to help gay parents buy babies?

It’s a litany of the ridiculous that provides a certain context for the thing Senator Ernst did not say — and explains why some of us were so ready to believe that she did.

    many
politicians, particularly on the right, have abandoned the vast middle ground of American political thought, preferring to seek votes with simple and simple-minded appeals to the prejudices and fears of those on the fringes instead.

    In such a world, the
idea that Joni Ernst thinks vaccines give you liberalism becomes, at a minimum, plausible. Which is a sad reflection on us.

State Supreme Court Justice Warns He May Abolish Marriage Entirely If Same-Sex Weddings Are Allowed

An obscure, two-page opinion by an Alabama Supreme Court justice contains an ominous warning. If marriage equality remains the law in Alabama, Justice Glenn Murdock may vote to abolish marriage in his state altogether.

according to Murdock, if gay couples and straight couples must enjoy the exact same marriage rights under the Cons ution, the proper remedy might be to deny those rights to everyone, rather than extending them to same-sex and opposite-sex couples alike.

Latest Proof Obama’s A Muslim: He Openly Possesses An Index Finger

some genius at “American Thinker” — where the stuff that’s too crazy for WorldNetDaily ends up — has finally found the conclusive evidence of Barack Hussein Obama Soetoro Guevara Lumumba Hitler’s definite membership in the Islamic Death Cult: He was photographed throwing Muslim Gang Signs! There it is, right in the picture up there!

F.W. Burleigh typed these words, allegedly in English:

Is President Obama a Muslim? A lot has been written about this, but if photographs speak louder than words, then a photo taken at last August’s U.S.-African Leaders’ Summit in Washington D.C. might shed considerable light.

It shows Barack Hussein Obama flashing the one-finger affirmation of Islamic faith to dozens of African delegates.

New UT Chief, Counterterrorism Expert, Says No To ‘Campus Carry’

The new chancellor of the University of Texas System told Gov. Greg Abbott and other top Republicans on Thursday that concealed handguns at colleges will make campus less safe.

William McRaven, the former Navy admiral who directed the Special Forces operation to kill Osama bin Laden, took over the lead of the University of Texas System this month. As his predecessor, Francisco Cigarroa, did in previous years, McRaven wrote a letter to state leaders outlining campus opposition to allowing concealed weapons in campus building and classrooms.

The “campus carry” measure backed by gun rights groups has been among the hottest issues in previous legislative sessions, and opposition from higher education officials has been a key reason for its defeat.

But the issue also has new momentum, particularly in the Senate, where
a bill filed this week already had 19 co-sponsors, the precise number needed to ensure its passage in that chamber. “I am very pleased that the Senate is poised to cast this historic vote,” Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said this week.
