Going balls out in the regular season gets you nowhere but on empty in the playoffs: see the 06 Pistons, 07 Mavs, and the 05-07 Suns.
Mavs/Suns weren't good enough to win it all anyways.

See: Boston 2008. Yeah, homecourt sure didn't help them in the first three rounds or the finals.

As for the Spurs, if they don't make any other moves I seem them as a 4-6th seed next season.

One thing is for sure: A Spurs' homecourt advantage in the West could very well determine whether or not we have a 2-0 series lead against a soft but much more talented L.A.

I'm pretty sure Pop knows this. I see us really trying to get that # 1 spot, especially with better leverage than last season to do so with the young guys we've picked up (mason and mahinmi). If we can get one more young guy like hayes or delfino or azubuke, we'd be in better shape to go for the # 1 spot without having to worry about health and injury.

New Orleans is going to be tough again next year, I don't see the Lakers being as good as they were this past season but still top 4. A team on the rise would be Utah and Houston assuming T-Mac and Yao are healthy and that is a big IF. The Mavs will look to compete as well and Kidd may actually figure out what the he is doing. I still see the Spurs as being in the Top 4 though.

The Spurs will finish in the top 8 AND make the playoffs. I'd bet someone's life on it.
