Please. No one had the Lakers going to the lottery last year, UNLESS Kobe was actually traded. Such a huge year of turmoil getting a 20/10 type of player for expiring contracts and a couple of draft picks.
see the problem with what you are saying is the fact that the mavs were built to specifically challenge the spurs but no one else. that is why after getting past the spurs(*) their downfall came quick and proceeded yr after yr.
it's not like the mavs demolished the spurs. and i definitely hate blaming the refs but i truly don't think the spurs had a fair advantage like the mavs in that series. i mean damn let's give fouls to everyone for getting stepped on while big vagina tries his ugly drive to the rim. big vagina loves the rim!

If you're going to use the officials as an excuse for the Spurs losing to the Mavs, then you can't criticize the Mavs losing in the Finals after the Dwyane Wade fellatio free throw party in those Finals.
the difference here though is the fact that regardless of the unfair treatment the spurs had vs the mavs, the spurs still made the series interesting and took it to a game7 ot. the mavs were up 2-0 and then stuck their tails between their legs, cried, kicked bikes, and ed to the media without coming together and trying to actually play some ball and compete vs the refs in that finals appearance.

It was much speculated that Kobe would INDEED be traded. That ESPN dude, I forget his name even said he had it on close information that Kobe was about to be traded any day now.

Once the Lakers got past the trade Kobe months of October/November, there was no turmoil.

I don't think anyone here can honestly say with a straight face that they expected the Lakers to make the Finals, even after they got Gasol. Give me a ing break, they exceeded all expectations to get into the Finals.
Yes they did lay a huge egg in the Finals, but to be honest BOS was a better team. It's not the same as losing to a team you are clearly better than which is what happened to the Mavs two straight seasons in a row. The Lakers will either learn from their tough loss or wilt like the Mavs.

Just a small correction in the Mavs/Spurs conversation. The Mavs/Spurs series in '06 was the Western Conference Semi-Finals, not the Western Conference Finals. The Mavs went on to beat the Suns to advance to the Finals.
