Yeah same here, well that and I work out like crazy. It does act up when I have multiple days of eating bad and drinking (in a row). I can drink soda, juice, even drink and im fine. I can even eat things you shouldnt if its a problem, it just takes a lifestyle change. I still have my prevacid waiting in my medicine cabinet just in case but I dont ever need them.

A few years back I developed a stomach ache that I thought was just gas.
I tried pretty much any over the counter medication from pepto to zantac to pepcid, tums, etc.

After about 10 days I went to the doctor. He didn't actually diagnose an ulcer but gave me some sample prevacids.

A few hours after taking the first prevacid, the pain was gone. I had about 3 weeks worth of pills so I finished them and haven't needed anything since.

Has anyone here ever suffered from persistent heartburn / acid reflux?

I just recently started having a sharp pain on my upper abdomen and real bad burning going up my chest, and let's not forget the belching.

I tried over the counter stuff like Tums, Maalox, Rolaids you name it but it only takes the pain and discomfort for awhile and then it comes back

Does anyone know of any natural remedies for this?

    Thank You
I’ve been suffering from GERD for years now. I take two Nexium and I am still having issues with it. I recommend you go see a good Gastro/ENT doctor. He can prescribe the best treatment for your symptoms as well as perform certain examinations to ensure that your eso us and throat have not suffered any serious damage. He/she can perform an endoscopy, Barium X-ray, eso eal manometry to test the LES, 48 PH tests (Bravo) and other tests deemed necessary. You should look into this because years of wear and tear on your eso us lining can cause inflammation and cause Eso eal narrowing stricture which can lead to ulcers and possibly Barrett’s Eso us. Barrett’s Eso us can lead to Eso eal Cancer. Now I’m not trying to scare you because some of these things are worst case scenarios but it is important to get checked especially by someone who knows. Your doctor may prescribe different PPI’s or have you lose weight or change your diet to exclude fatty foods, alcohol, carbonated drinks, citrus fruits etc….. But whatever you do get checked. If you need the name of a good Doctor just PM me.

It appears that posting on Spurstalk is a cause of heartburn.

You sound like my son. While Nexium works the best (he takes two also), he still has issues with it. Outside of GERD, he also had/has Gastritis (don't know if that goes away ever). He's had two endoscopys, the barium x-ray, as well as a colonoscopy. They were seeing if he had inflammatory bowel disease, which he doesn't and I didn't think he did as he had none of the symptoms. He also had the blood test for H.pylori.

Last year was horrible and a very stressful year for him. It was really hard to see him suffer. This year, school is a lot less stressful, so he seems to be doing better.

He can drink carbonated drinks with no problem and even eat some y foods. I guess it's just trial and error. We tried Papaya enzymes and the didn't help at all. He has hardly any bodyfat at all, so losing weight won't help him.

I just recently started taking Nexium twice a day but so far things still seem the same. My doctor advised me that I am a good candidate for surgery but he wants to try a few things before that. I hope your son gets better.

Thanks. My son is only 15, so we're hoping he may grow out of this. He goes in for a follow up this afternoon, so we'll see how it goes.

    Good luck to you!

My insurance wouldn't cover Nexium, but I fought them and won because my son (who is 15) tried everything else. He started off once a day, but now he's on it twice a day. Still, with insurance, it's $50/month.

So if you think you need Nexium, fight the insurance company. Who are they to tell you what works for you and what doesn't.
Tell the insurance company you're thinking about surgery......which one would they rather pay for???

    ???

Perhaps you misread. I did fight them and it's $50/mo.
