Is there any information on what percentage of gun-related deaths occur as a result of guns purchased at gun shows? My guess would be that it's a pretty low percentage but I don't know.

That makes sense, however the biggest threat the government had back then were cannon balls.
Hey, I'm all for Americans owning tanks. I'm ok with proper registration in some cases, of course, but if someone with enough money wanted an F-22, he'd either find a way to acquire it or build a good enough facsimile.

A scope on a revolver? That's the dumbest thing I've ever seen.

What's next? A scope on a starter pistol?

I don't own nor will I ever own a gun. If someone wants to buy a gun then go ahead. Be my guest. I have better things to waste/spend my money on...like books.

    Not really.

I simply find the infatuation with guns hard to understand.

And that crap about how guns are my only defense against government . . . well, it's just that. Crap.

Sweden requires every person living in its country to have a rifle in their home as a sort of national defense initiative should they ever be invaded. They have one of the lowest gun violence rates in the world. Why? Because they educate their children and their masses.
    Care to back that up?

To be fair, sure, rifles probably wont' help if for some reason all the military gets brainwashed and we go into martial law. But it will sure help more than a butter knife would.

Great post, but isnt Sweden socialist? I was told it should not be used as a great example of....well, anything.

    Color me confused.
Sorry, I was a little hungover at that point from Halloween. I meant Switzerland.

First, I meant Switzerland, not Sweden.

Second, every male goes through compulsory military training and as part of that learns how to shoot and maintain firearms.

So, uh, I'd call that educating the masses, wouldn't you?

Oh, and they are also issued those evil automatic weapons that liberals hate. The horror!

If you admittedly know nothing about guns, why would you make such an uneducated comment? The muzzle velocity of a .454 round can approach 2000 ft per second. This gives the .454 an effective range of ~100 yards, and skilled shooters can extend it well beyond that if conditions are right. Do you want to try hitting a small target from a football field away with a bore sight? Yeah, that's what I thought.

Hunting a small target? Come on, everyone knows the only legitimate use for firearms is for children to shoot each other and race warfare [/Obama, Dems]

My apologies, it occurred to me later that you are probably thinking of Switzerland and not Sweden, as that didn't make any sense. My assertion still stands though - they are educating gun owners, not general public. They just make gun owners en mass :P
