On Sportscenter I thought they showed a preceding play that explained why Barnes threw that elbow. With this Youtube video you can't tell what led up to the fight.

Nash was involved.

Matt Barnes fouled Rafer Alston excessively hard on a screen, so Rafer charged after Barnes. Nash came to Barnes' defense and went after Alston. TMac came to Alston's defense and pushed Nash to the floor hard.

Shaq came to Nash's defense and pushed everyone to the ground. Literally, everyone. The Rockets, his teammates, the refs, the coaching staff, the dance team, the Gorilla, several members of the crowd, and an exercise bike. All on the floor.
