There hasn't been a leadership group in place like the Maloofs with the political, economic, and community clout to shoulder a franchise move to Vegas. That's no longer a problem.

Aggie's got his together. Stern is smart enough to realize that being the firse pro franchise in Vegas, trumping MLB, NHL, and NFL, is worth millions, maybe even the b-word. That's why either NO or Sacto will relo there in the next five years. If the Maloof want it bad enough it will happen. Otherwise some other team will set up camp there and will reap the benefits.

I get where you're coming from. Some major sports team in the next five years will move to Vegas. They will make a load of money, and then others stuck in bad leases and whatnot will follow suit. It just makes sense tat the NBA, the most forward thinking of all US major leagues, would bat leadoff.

Again, Stern is a businessman. Before when moves were discussed, Vegas was just a gambling mecca. It's now the fastest growing metropolitan area in America, and there is a load of money there.
With shows like NBC's "Vegas" on tv, the negative gambling stigma of Vegas has largely dissipated. You could even throw in the Real World Vegas, the young folks seem to dig that MTV especially hard. That public relations nightmare is no longer a concern.
Think about the suites alone - they could put the nicest suites ever made in a pro arena in that place, charge whatever they want, and the casinos would snatch them right up to have for their big clients. I mean they could charge a million dollars a suite and put 50 of them in that thing, and they'd all be gone like that. Talk about revenue stream for the league!

New Orleans (Jazz) and Charlotte both had histories in the sport on their side. Yeah, like Stern is going to pass up a black owner (don't shoot the messenger) in a city that was bent over like Charlotte was by an asshole owner.

The perception of Vegas has changed from Sin City to a sprawling Sin-Cty lite metropolis. At least as far as I know. I've never been off the strip in my visits there, but apparently they have a vibrant modern city away from where I get drunk and play blackjack.
