When I posted this stat in another thread a couple weeks back, I mentioned that the only thing that bothers me about not dunking is that it's another indicator of not being aggressive near the basket. The Spurs are near the bottom (at the bottom?) in the league at getting to the foul line. So, though I don't care that they don't dunk, they can definitely improve in driving to the hoop and getting to the line. Get extra free throws is good no matter how much you want to analyze it.
lack of free throws: Another good point why dunks is an indicator of agressively going to the basket.

Its not a good thing to be at the bottom in dunks any way you want to spin it.

Of the top 10 leaders in free throw attempts per game, only 4 are also in the top 10 in the number of dunks they have this year.

It may not be a good thing to be at the bottom of dunks, but there is also no way to spin it to convince anyone it's necessarily a bad thing either.

I remember that thread and I think there were some good points there about the advantages or disadvantages of dunking.

Reason being that there are far fewer dunks than other shots overall so it doesn't make that big of a splash in overall shooting % but dunks are no doubt a higher % shot .
Dunks are great shots if you can even call them shots. They fire up the home crowd are an exciting play and are an easy 2 points.
I agree, I think that dunks might have some importance. It's "only" 2 points but it's a high percentage shot. If we consider only the points and ignore the percentage, then we should shoot 3s the entire game. And it may also influence the emotional aspect of the game, firing up the team.

We can't associate dunks to the success of a team. Bad teams that dunks a lot will still be bad teams. Good teams that doesn't dunk will still be good teams. But that doesn't mean that dunks doesn't make them a little better or worse.

The Spurs really can't be at the top of this categorie, given their lack of atlheticism and even their style of play, but I think they could and should be a little better.

I don't think it's a coincidence that the Spurs are last in dunks but 6th in 3 point attempts per game......(currently 1st in 3pt FG % at 40.3)

dunks are definately overrated. Duncan can still dunk with authority when he wants to, he just choses the smarter shot

    Dwight Howard > Spurs
one on one, Dwight Howard would have no chance against Tim Duncan even today. He got most of his points off rebounds, turn overs, and crafty passing under the basket. Thats the only place where he can score. Duncan would eat him up alive.

Duncan has 100x more dunks...no way he can guard him 1 on 1...
