Carroll is not as terrible as some make him out to be. He might do ok with Kidd. Not a game changer, but can play the JJ re role (less good shooting, better ball handling).
Matt Carroll is a pretty good shooter. But this definitely has not been one of his better years.

Well in all seriousness, I guess the Mavs learned that it was impossible to use Diop's contract in any other deals so they simply wanted to get rid of him. Now they have two player whose contracts are more friendly to use in other deals.
No one, FO included, sees this as anything more than a deal for purely financial reasons. But it might set the tables for bigger deals. Do the Felton deal, use Kidd to acquire Butler from Washington, maybe Josh for Bargnani and we have a new team, ready to fight with the elite once again.
