Feel the Bonsu...
Malik Rose before he fell in love with his jump shot.
Great dunker, but he needs a shot.
Screw a j, everyone on the Spurs already goes with that, let TP, Malik, and Pops focus on forcing the issue and not letting opponents get comfortable.
Man, thats a scary lookin dude. We havent had a guy like that on our team in a while.
Exactly.
Good point.
Everyone complaining that Duncan has no help in the post. Spurs don't need shooters, we already have Mason/Manu/Bonner/Finley and Thomas that can give a J.
If Pops gets more minutes then who knows, a dunk can have more impact on a game than a layup..
A 10-footer can be learned. If Engelland can teach Oberto how to stroke a free-throw or baseline jumper, he can teach anybody.
I'd rather see the guy come in with great instincts for post play, defense, and rebounding. We can teach him how to shoot a jumper.
you need a brain.
Sadly, this is VERY TRUE. I even saw Finley dunk a ball last night, which is a rarity in itself. Now if only we could get Tim to stop trying to lay the ball in when he is directly under the basket, we should be good. Maybe Pops might rub off on the guys some where everyone wants to start jamming at least once a game.![]()
+1 about the mid-range J being irrelevant right now..
Thomas is automatic from mid-range, Bonner is a solid shooter from there as well, and Oberto makes it consistently too..Pops gives us a new look, which is an athletic guy with balls to go at anybody..
He can rebound. Doesn't seem totally lost. Constantly moving on offense. He's shown good signs. He doesn't move well on defense but a lot of new Spurs take time to learn that. Also, for 6'8" he doesn't seem as undersized as people keep saying. He looks pretty strong to me. Plays WAY bigger than Bonner.
I like the fact that Pops give us somebody that teams have to worry about on the offensive boards. The Spurs have to be the worst offensive rebounding team in the league. We are the epitome of one and done on the offensive end.
I see Pops giving us more possessions and more points. Nothing wrong with that.
you must be an NBA scout, what team do you work for?![]()

Some guys really do "play long" for their height. I don't know about Pops, but what they finally noticed at the combine is that some of these guys... not joking... have short necks. A guy that is 6'8" may have exactly the same size body, same reach, etc. as another guy who is 6'10", because the only difference between them is in their necks, which doesn't help the taller guy defend or rebound one bit.
the guys a beast reminds me of darius mile... hope he doesnt end up like him tho
1. I think we are bad at offensive rebounds because we are more concerned with our transition D and setting up our half-court D than getting offensive rebounds. I think its a cost-benefit thing and Pop decided its worth more to be better at D.
2. I don't think PMB needs a jumper to contribute points, but he needs to be able to play outside the paint and still have to be guarded. Teams will only guard him outside the paint if there's fear he'll make an outside shot. Its important for our bigs to be able to make those shots so they can draw their defenders out of the paint, so it is open for Parker and Manu to attack the rim. That's one of the reasons Bonner's outside shot has been so valuable this year, because he draws an opponent's big man far out of the paint.
It's a moot point unless he grows 4 inches........
Yeah. *sigh* Ya just can't teach that...
Damn, I thought I had one!

Is his height really an issue? Because his athleticism should make up for it.
you know if mensah-bonsu played 40 minutes a game at the pace he was the last two games, he would averaging 33.8 pts at 100% FG, 21.5 reb, 3.1 steals, and 3.1 blocks. yeah. that's right. duncan, dwight howard, shaq are all d-league players compared to pops.
That's wishful thinking.
He's a great player that I could see complimenting our second string, as long as Pop gives him the opportunity.
