Also, that smell is guano.
After enduring the cluster that is Pittsburgh traffic for a few months, Austin really isn't that daunting.
Pittsburgh traffic.

I drove through downtown Pittsburgh during rush hour a few months ago on my way to DC ... I agree, it was . It doesn't help that the city was planned by ing Picasso - the intersections there make no sense at all, and they're like <100 ft away from each other.
Austin is still pretty bad, though.
You'll also need to step up your game with regard to ignoring panhandlers. I usually put on shades, crank up the music and start air guitaring or drumming on the steering wheel. The only ones I give money to are the ones that clean my windshield.
If I'm holding and the coast is clear, it's always real fun to pack a bowl and blaze it right in front of them. But do so at your own risk. I've had too many close calls with the cops and smoking weed in my car that I don't do it that much anymore.
From the south you will soon be able to take 45SE to 130 from just north of Buda. It's supposed to open next week. You avoid the stupid 35N-71E "interchange" (like most Austin highway intersections, you have to get off on access roads and drive for miles unless you're going the 'right' way).
Costs $6.xx each way with a TxTag/equivalent, 20-25% more if you don't have one. And takes you WAY outta the way but you do avoid all the traffic. There's a map here but it doesn't show 45SE open yet.
You'll probably breakdown and end up buying a TxTag for the toll roads anyways. Especially if you live in North Austin. I live off Parmer near the 620/45 interchange, so I found myself using them more often than I'd like, but they save time.
I'm going to end up moving there in a few years.
Isn't Austin considered "the San Francisco of Texas"?
I love San Francisco, too.![]()
Leaving tonight for Austin. It's a 900-mile drive and I'm going to do it in one fell swoop.
Watch out for them po'pos in the desert.
Try to hit West Texas in daylight ... speed limit 80 on I-10 east of El Paso

You need to check out ACL. Line up is sick:

Did you make it?
Yes, and I'm loving it. Austin is ing sweet.
Nice. Welcome back!
i think you'll find yourself at home here. although, the recent humidity has been ing killer.
You're coming at a great time to hit any of the lakes, or try to make your way down the Greenbelt for some waterin' hole action.
If you haven't already, I highly recommend you check out:
Mat's El Rancho - bad-ass Tex-Mex. Try the Mat's Dip.
Dan's and Fran's - awesome local burger chains. From what I understand, Dan and Fran used to be married and in business together, but divorced, and now run competing (but similar) burger stands. Both great for a classic burger.
Mellow Mushroom - hand-tossed pies off of Guadalupe. Fresh ingredients, good bar, and a pizza with bacon called the Mighty Meaty. Also a good area to walk around, being over by the campus.
Trudy's - more great Mexican fo0d, and killer (if not overrated) Mexican Martinis. They'll try to cut you off after 2, but I usually don't find that decision to be completely unreasonable.
Moo-Yah's - awesome mid-price burgers and fries.
Maria's Taco XPress - local staple, featured on Food Network for its mexican cuisine
The Oasis - More on the refined side, but beautiful establishment with a lakeside view from the patio, and was recently remodeled and revamped.
Carlos & Charlie's - like the Oasis, but more of a bar/party atmosphere as opposed to a dining experience.
Top Notch - the infamous drive-in from Dazed and Confused
The Alligator Grill - this place was used for Chotchkie's in Office Space. The food honestly wasn't to die for, so it's more for novelty sake than anything else.
Austin is full of wannabes and has beens. Traffic sucks the people suck and the music sucks..
Stereotyping by geographical location only proves how much of a jackass you can be, but thanks for contributing to the thread.![]()
