Actually his bad at ude is multi-dimensional. But then, so is Rasheed's.
They know there's no way to stay on budget AND keep Sessions AND keep CV, so why pretend? Looks like Sessions was their choice and they're going all in with that.

If the Bucks are just letting him go, I can't imagine that they would want to take back any salary, unless it is somebody they actually want. I would think that excludes JV. I don't know about Bonner/Finley.
As for whether he's an improvement on Bonner:
On the plus side, he scores a lot of points, and pulls down more boards than Bonner, and he only played 3 minutes per game more than Bonner (27 vs. 24). He also shot 64% jump shots vs. 84% for Bonner, which means he is more than just a spot-up shooter. One big improvement is that he gets 5.5 FTA/48 minutes, compared to .6 FTA/48 minutes for Bonner. Anybody that can force the other team to foul him is going to help free up Duncan.
On the negative side, he was 7th in the league in FGA/48 minutes. If he gets the ball, he's probably going to shoot the ball. The only players who shoot significantly more often are Kobe and D-Wade. (LeBron, Dirk, Carmello, and Danny Granger shoot very slightly more often.) He would definitely think of himself as a first option on the offensive end. He's not known for his defense, and I don't get the feeling that he would be a big asset in the Spurs' defensive system, especially. [Edit: He shoots the 3, but not well - his career average is .327. Just enough to get into trouble. But 25% of his FGA's are 3-pointers. I don't see that flying on a Gregg Popovich team.]
Maybe Bonner is the wrong comparison. How about Villanueva vs. Drew Gooden? Gooden was called a "black hole" for shooting so often - he took about 19 FGA/48 vs. 25 FGA/48 for Villanueva. Gooden's Effective FG% is almost identical to Villanueva's, but he scores a much higher percentage of his points in the paint. Villanueva's 5.5 FTA/48 is good, but Gooden's 8.6 FTA/48 is much better. Gooden is a much better rebounder than Villanueva. The biggest thing in Villanueva's favor is that on any given night, he can go off for 25+ points. If we aren't sold on Gooden, I'm not sure why we would be sold on Charlie Villanueva.

i would go:
1.) R. Wallace or C. Villanueva
2.) A. McDyess
3.) A. Varejao
4.) D. Gooden
5.) M. Gortat
He can't defend the 3 or the 5, and 6-7 rebounds is sub-par for someone 6'10" and athletic.
Hafta agree with EricB on this one. He'd be an acceptable choice only if we were completely desperate and couldn't get Sheed, Dice or Camby.

The whole FA suspense is killing me![]()
Me too-- and now the news that Rasheed was seen at the Dallas airport too... I hope that was just a connecting flight!
I watched him when he played at UConn and he always seemed to be an underachiever with a weak work ethic. I doubt that's changed much.
Cavs Interested In Villanueva, Rasheed, McDyess
According to sources, Charlie Villanueva will be one of Cleveland's free-agent targets when teams are allowed to speak with them Wednesday.
The Cavs have their mid-level exception, expected to be around $5.6 million to $5.8 million, to offer in the first year of a contract. Villanueva's qualifying offer would have been $4.6 million. His salary last season was $3.4 million. Several teams with more salary cap space, such as the Detroit Pistons and Oklahoma City Thunder, might have interest in Villanueva.
Cleveland is also expected to pursue Rasheed Wallace and Antonio McDyess.

I would differently
1.) R. Wallace
2.) A. McDyess
3.) D. Gooden
4.) A. Varejao
5.) Villanueva
Charlie V wants to be in Cleveland... if he is their 1st choice, and I think he should be... He will be there.
not so much in how they score, just both being undersized offensive-minded PFs
while i don't think he will resign with us. I think rasho isn't getting any love. I hope it is because he isn't a "4" that pop was targeting and not because he is white.
You don't hear about too many teams wanting Gooden. Wonder how cheap he'll go.
I think best news for the Spurs is if CV signs quickly with the Cavs. The Cavs are one of the teams shopping for a bigman with the MLE. It'd also be nice if the Cavs land Bass quickly with their MLE.
That would give the Spurs a pretty good shot at landing Sheed or McDyess.
What, I didn't know that! Probably was a connecting flight. I just can't imagine him wanting to play for Dallas at this point in his career plus the rumor that Kidd might not be back.
If we can't get Sheed or Dice then by all means. His price sure is right. A little over $3 million. I guess the Bucks didn't want Bonner because last week the Bucks and Spurs could have traded the two with the Spurs kicking in $350,000.00 or so to complete the deal. Villanueva has good numbers to go along with good size. Not sure about his 'D' but, that can be worked on. If we do end up signing him then there is absolutely no reason in the Universe why we can't finally beat the Bucks. , as big as us Texans are at hunting Bucks in the Fall I don't understand why 12 Bucks up in the frozen tundra would be so hard for us.
No, no, no, Rasho. The whole team would require wheelchairs to keep up with Rasho's sloooooooooooooooooooooow crawl. That guy would put all of us in the stands too sleep. Too many others much better to go after.
Charlie V is basically a moderate upgrade over Matt Bonner. Having both on the team is pretty pointless when your a team with such glaring needs elsewhere.
In no way can I sign off on a Villanueva pursuit by the Spurs. But then I don't have to: he's not a good fit for us and we are certainly not a good fit for him. He's a glitzy guy and wants to be flashy.
This would be my list too, but perhaps swap Varejao with Gooden. Also, i think the Spurs would go after Zaza or Gortat before Charlie V.
