No one wants the backup PG of the God-blessed team US bad, but sincerely, you are listing a player with only 4 years experience in NBA parallel to 4 proven legends, who are all guaranteed future Hall of Famers. Paul is a nice youngster and will probably be a great player like his predecessors, but naming him top 5 at such an early time pretty much shows your naked fact that you are a homer.

It wasn't me that ignored some great players while nominating an immature guy as a top 5 player in the league, together with Kobe muthafuking Bryant, Lebron James, Dwright and D-Whistle. At least I mean, Paul should wait one more year to join this club.

Okay, let's first dispel this misconception that all Paul does is get steals, courtesy of basketball-reference.com.

    Defensive Rating
    19. Chris Paul-NOH103.1

    That's second among point guards.

    Defensive Win Shares
    8. Chris Paul-NOH4.7

    Second among point guard again.

On top of that, he gets by far the most steals, and the Blazers scored 40 points on the Hornets in one quarter when Paul was down.

West didn't get any playing time before he came along, so that's a terrible example. West was also named the top player in college basketball by a few publications, so it isn't like he came up out of thin air.
    College =/= NBA

Although West is no scrub. I do find it interesting that you're actually defending him, because most of the people here call him overrated.

So why not? Paul's IMMEASURABLE impact should make it 300x easier, shouldn't it?
It DOES make it 300x easier, but in the end, only Peja Stojakovic can put the ball through the hoop when he's shooting, not anybody else. If Peja airballs a wide open 3-pointer, that's his fault not Paul's.

Bench players aren't supposed to be all-stars.
They also aren't supposed to be so incompotent that they blow a lead or dig the Hornets into a whole EVERY ING TIME PAUL GOES OUT. You should probably watch a Hornets game some time.

I don't question him being a good-to-great player, but you can't even compare Paul to James.
I'm not trying to say that Paul is better, but comparisons to LeBron are extremely valid.

    Win Shares
    1.LeBron James-CLE19.6
    2.Chris Paul-NOH17.5

That's pretty Goddamn impressive, if you ask me.

49 wins is nothing, especially considering Paul probably has more talent at his disposal.
    Who? David West?

    Peja Stojakovic - 13.9 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 0.378 3p%, in 61 games.
    Tyson Chandler - 8.8 ppg, 8.7 rpg, 1.2 bpg, in 45 games.

Those two missed a combined total of 58 games, with players like Hilton Armstrong and Sean ing Marks starting for the Hornets. Chris Paul made them look almost passable.

I would like to see this talent that you speak of. If you think horrible ing bench players who can't create their own shot worth a damn, are sufficient teammates, then that's you.

Paul's opponent PER is worse than Kyle Korver's. He's bad at defense.

If we talkin right now it has to be lebron... Kobe is like over 30..so lebron has his prime years in front of him.. now as good as chris paul and dwight howard are... I think this is a 2 man race. I am guessing the 2 votes for cp3 are BR and redzero?? Am I right?

    1. Kobe
    2. LeBron
    3. Wade
    4. Dwight
    5. CP3

In that order. I think LeBron is a better individual player than Kobe now. He surpassed him, but until he leads his team all the way, I'll take Kobe over him.

I think Paul would be the favorite candidate if BR asked the question like "who is the choice of a team on rebuilding mode?" Where as, Paul is definitely NOT the guy to choose for a win-now team like Mavs, Lakers... unless the whole bunch of superior players are all unavailable, and it's quite an easy job to list 7-8 guys superior over-all to Chris Paul in this league.

Seeing as we already have Paul, I'd take LBJ. I'm a firm believer in a good PG. Which is why Dwill and TP are among my favorite non-hornets to watch.

WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG! This is a Ghazi troll correct? He's the most bitter against Paul which is odd seeing as how much Paul owns Dallas

If Chris Paul was on the Lakers for next season, they would go 82-0

Please. After the Gasol trade, Paul being on the Lakers would cause Spurs Fandom to call for a Senate investigasheown.

Right.. It's a hypothetical for rodriguez who says paul can't be the part of a win-now team. 80% of NBA players, if they had their choice, would pick Paul to be their PG. The other 20% would be lying to protect their own PG.

PAUL STATS VS. THE MAVS LAST YEAR:

    1/14/09(W 104-97) - 33pts/10rebs/11ast/7stls/2TO
    3/5/09(W 104-88) - 27pts/4rebs/15asts/1stl/2TO
    4/10/09(L 92-100) - 42pts/9rebs/7ast/2stls/2TO
    4/12/09(W 102-92) - 31pts/9rebs/17asts/2stls/1TO

Averages in those 4 games: 33.25ppg/8rpg/12.5apg/3spg/1.75TOpg

    Looks alot like ownage

son yes it is ... also apart of our team's success is getting knocked out by a #8 seed Golden State team as well as choking it up in the NBA finals to the Heat .... oh wait, my bad ... that's YOUR team's plan. sorry
The Hornets plan is to never make it as far as the Finals, lose in the first or second round of the playoffs if you're lucky enough to get there, along with salary dumping good players.

Yeah I really don't understand how people don't see that Paul is a game changer when he's on the court. He improves his team as much as anyone in the NBA. I guess it's because assists, controlling tempo, and lightning fast drives for the LAYUP or dumping it off for the assist aren't as flashy as a lebron or Kobe dunk.

Sad, but very true. And it's not just b/c of Dwill, the Jazz's D just knows how to minimalize Paul's impact.

there were a lot of games where he got in foul trouble and yea i noticed they always had 1 guy right behind deron in the lane so either paul had to shoot over d-will or beat 2 or 3 guys to the hole.. tough task for a guy that small with no help on the wings..if those guys would make thier shots that kind of D wouldnt work.

Assuming this year, and no future year? It am teetering between Wade and Howard. Howard always gives you a chance by himself as a bigg, and Wade can carry a team. Kobe on a new team would probably just implode and LeBron is the choice for the long run, as Wade is probably frail and Howard may never develop an offensive game.

He's top 5 lol. The only way your argument is even plausible to a person with an average IQ is if you tried to make the case Chris Paul is the 6th best player in the league. Dropping him below 5 is hard to argue.
    It's quite easy to argue:

    Bron
    Kobe
    Wade
    Duncan

Take your pick of Howard or Dirk to round out the top 5. Maybe CP3 vaults into the top 5 this year, but based off the season that just concluded, it's very easy to make a case for top 10 status for him. , that still makes him a franchise player. But top 5? He'll get there, but not yet.
