Carwright knew a thing or two about defending the post and boxing out. If Lopez really wanted to get better in that department, Cartwright could help him.
Hmm... Bill Cartwright, and Steve Kerr, two guys who looked good because they got to ride MJ's coat tail....

They need to motivate him as in firing his ass... Too bad it wasn't more like the real world there. Boxing out takes work, but is not hard to learn, especially if you're a guy who is constantly next to the hoop and not wandering around like many PFs.
He pissed me off to no end. The other day, I think vs the clippers, I saw him in the post fighting for position and he elbowed his defender in the neck to create space. Jesus, a ref is going to call you for that every time. Catch the ball, pass it out, repost, catch it again, !
Never have I seen a player that can cause so many bad things to happen in such a short period of time. At least in the Clippers game, Gentry waited until they had a 20 pt lead in the 4th to put him in. This guy has and will cost the suns more games just by causing leads rapidly when he comes in.
Jordan said Kerr was the only teammate he ever trusted to shoot with the game on the line. Jordan made Kerr, but Kerr had what it took to gain Jordan's respect (save for the cheapshot punch to the face in a practice).
Cartwright was a good player with the Knicks before he got to the Bulls. He was at the tail end of his prime when the Bulls were entering their first three-peat.
+1
I haven't double checked, but I think he averaged something like 18 and 10 with NY.
And as a Bull, he was always super motivated when facing Ewing; he used to play well vs NY
Cartwright was an All-Star his rookie year with averages of like 20+ ppg, 8+ rpg and 1+ bpg. His first 7-10 seasons with the Knicks (however many it was) he averaged like 15 ppg, 7 rpg, and close to a block per game.
He was like 10/12 years into his career when the Bulls won their first le.
So Lopez must really suck if he spent a summer being tutored by someone who knew how to play the game as a big... Maybe the guy just lacks mental toughness to where he scews up every which way possible. I was very concerned that Dragic was this way, but he seems to be breaking through the mental barrier.
