the increasing obesity rates in the united states are perfectly fine. teach kids their body and physical health is not important. we will pay for it later in higher insurance because of diabetes, heart disease, etc...
Ummmmm...how about maybe because marching band is a little more involved than walking to class?

Oh, please...give me a break. PE doesn't teach kids crap. They learn that stuff in their health class, which is also required.
PE is babysitting.
At least in choir, you are learning a performance skill.
And marching band is a strenuous activity.
even if p.e. sucks. she should have taken it. choir doesn't teach a skill she will need in life. she just wanted to take it to make her resume look nice to get into college. i think a high school diploma looks nicer than a choir class.
and there is this:
"By the time Bow suggested that I drop one of my AP courses to take BEST, I realized that I wouldn't have any spare time," Gottlieb said. "I wouldn't have time for band, which is huge for me, and I would have lost my one free period, which means I wouldn't have enough time for my homework."
she didn't want to lose her study hall?
actually, from what i have read she is an athlete. however, this is not just a pe class. it is like health and pe combined:
"While the two other credits were worked out, it is the remaining health and physical education class that will sideline the student athlete at the school's graduation ceremony June 18."
"Even if PE sucks, she should have taken it"...That is one of the more IDIOTIC statements I've seen here. I was just trying to get a rise out of you with my earlier implication about you being a dumb jock...but you are proving me right.
She was taking AP Biology and Calculus. Who the are you to determine whether or not she needs the study hall???
Just admit it...you are on the wrong side of this issue.
did you not read? it was a health and pe class combined. the majority of high schools require health to graduate. she shouldn't be exempt bc she chooses to fill her plate with other things she thinks are more important. she doesn't need a study hall. study at home.
Who are YOU to say?
After those three weeks, a series of transfers began between Gottlieb's old school in Seattle and Bow High School. The controversy arose because in Seattle, Gottlieb's varsity-level athletic participation was worth physical education credit, whereas in Bow it is not.
I'm guessing someone at her intelligence level might know that putting an unwrapped weiner in a hoo-ha is bad and makes it fall off (Texas' required health courses).

Doesn't look unhealthy in that picture (albeit a profile shot only) and she played varsity sports.
Remeber, Clan, not all required education comes from a classroom. I'm also guessing that if her parents raised her to think of education the way she is, they also taught her (or at least pointed her in the direction) the equivalent of a health class.
I guarantee you I have learned more from working at The University Star than I would have in a classroom.
it was a health and pe class combined. the majority of schools require them. why should one student get a waiver? she shouldn't. if it was just a regular pe class, then her varsity experience, i'm sure, would have sufficed.
Again, damn them kids for trying to increase the quality of THEIR education.
Clan, just because I don't want to dig through the archives, were you one of the people who supported stream-lining education for those that wanted to go into vocational fields?
Why NOT get this girl through college faster and out into the working world doing what she wants to do in life (by taking the AP courses)?
Why NOT let this girl - this girl who did well despite of/or thanks to (depending on your view) the public education systems she was a part of - show that if you do well, if you study hard and do your best to prepare yourself for the world of academia (and have sufficed to meet physical requirements and not sat on your ass studying all the time), we can let a health class slide?
, let the damn girl test out right now. Somebody pick her up and ask her the health questions we were asked in our exams.

I love how when everyone gets in debates with Clandestino, they realize just how stupid he is.
Pendejo is about right.
school required a HEALTH class to graduate. she did not meet the requirement, nor would she work with them.
i didn't say for her to stop her AP classes. she could've dropped the study hall or the choir class.
Can you get taste lost form a fooseball table?
Fooseball is sort of an activity. I think it should count as a p.e. credit.
This chick is sooo dumb... wasting every minute of her life with... Advanced Placement biology...Electrical Engineering courses...I could just see her now, pocket full of pens...thick glasses...all the high school was trying to do was get her to broaden her horizons & not be so focused on colige...
Who knows with a little bit of exercise she maybe could have been the next Lisa Leslie or Serena Williams or something...![]()
This chick has moved on yet Clandestino cannot...
people keep responding, so will beeyatch..
Rules are rules. She knew them and made her decision.
What we have here is a failure to communicate.
She made her decision.
Now she has to live with them and if a GED is what she wants, well she gets it.
I'm stupid!? Well, when I look at your screen name I guess I shouldn't be surprised every time I address you. My post was a reaction to your post sounding pompous, but then since you are "MannyIsGod" I guess I should expect you to think so highly of yourself.
But your response also makes you look like an ass and I don't see what you're accomplishing either.
Anyway I didn't mean no harm but I see you went to the personal attacks by calling me stupid. At least I was acknowledging your high reading level.
Learned to screw in High School?
Why did you wait till than?
Sweet memories of 8th grade.
