How exactly can the NCAA punish Pete Carroll and Reggie Bush now?
You punish the school and the program. That's what happens when the NCAA delivers sanctions. Players leave, they graduate, they declare for the draft. Coaches leave, go to a different job. You simply cannot claim injustice because "innocent" (I use that term loosely) players and coaches are affected by the actions of others when there is basically no recourse to punish those players and coaches who should be directly punished, especially when they no longer have direct affiliation with the school and the program.
That's the way it goes.
