Solid win for Spain. Idiots got too cute, otherwise they could have won by 4 or 5 goals and build up the goal differential. It's really embarrasing that Honduras is even in the World Cup...
I'm pretty sure there's worse teams...
Like? At least North Korea scored a goal...
Had to do interrogation interviews with thieves today so I wasn't able to watch the match until now on DVR.
Much better performance and we had to get at least a 2 goal margin win to have the differential edge on Chile so that's good. Torres looks horrible on the touch, Villa caught a bit of fire with the best goal of the tourney, and although Xavi is a wizard in the midfield he needs to not be so hesitant on putting the ball on goal when he has openings around the box. Finally a little toughness but against a pretty bad team (although they played Chile to a one nil game).
So far a frustrating tourney, should have at least put 3 up on the Swiss and should have had 4 or 5 today but not finding the net on prime opportunities. If that changes, we'll be whoppin ass.
Three critical observations on today's game:
1) What's with nobody wanting to blast the ball once they're near the box? Too many stupid ticky tacky passes and wasted opportunities. Also, el niño looked frustrated out there at the end when everybody was trying to get fancy with the ball when he was all alone to score...
2) The defense looks pretty subpar. I mean, Honduras couldn't handle the ball at all, yet early on in the game you could find some of their players wide open in the wings. Puyol is a gritty man, but I don't necessarily see him as a guy that can give you a lot of guarantees in the back (a la Lucio/Samuel/Ferdinand).
3) Both in this game and the second half against the Swiss, the entire team was always looking for Navas to create from the right. And I mean a whole lot. It just strikes me as odd since compared to Villa and Xavi, he looks like a very ordinary player.
We'll see how the team evolves. I'm intrigued because Villa has been playing out of his mind even against the Swiss, and I think Torres is bound to start scoring at some point.
@ 1) it show that even when they need goals (remeber, they are just +1 gd as of now) they can't put their heads together and go for flair play ... not contender behavior imo.
Furthermore El nino missed ALOT .. i mean ALOT, free header, 1v1, you don't miss such . I agree he isn't involved alot in their attacks but as i said in this thread, the lack of a CAM means that there is a huge gap between torres and the rest ( villa does track to midfield more often so he has more opportunities to get involved)
@ 2) i wouldn't put samuel as reliable.. he sure does make alot of mistakes. Puyol does play ok, but that lil got from barcelona PIQUE is pussy ass . I wonder whan coaches will realize he's a bum and he'll stop playing for club and country.
@ 3) again, the lack of a cam means you have to attack on the wing. You see it at england too. Villa plays alot as a second striker but that means he is always marked and even if he plays good and gets others involved torres is sole striker = you isolate him.
Jesus navas is a very good player, but he's used badly, not as position but, due to team tactics, he does not have alot of space to work with and as a winger that kinda kills your game.
The whole 3) comment can be applied with ease to england players like lennon & wright philips if you swap villa's name with rooney.
