Nice Dunk
Splitter may be done for the day if Iran doesn't make a quick run.
Can't wait to see Splitter vs Odom. A couple of crafty guys, but I like Splitter in this one.
Nice Dunk
Tiago with 2 great plays, with 2 nice passes from Huertas
The second one was particularly impressive: gobbling up the defensive rebound, running the floor, and finishing with the reverse layup.
Really? did you notice how many shots he got in the first 3 quarters? He barely touch the ball.
Did anyone put up a link for the boxscore? And I just tuned in, I missed the dunk and the fast break layup.![]()
here you go
ISTANBUL (AP) — Guilherme Giovannoni scored 17 points, Tiago Splitter and Leandro Barbosa added 13 apiece, and Brazil beat Iran 81-65 on Saturday in its first game at the world championship.
Marcelo Huertas added 10 points for Brazil, which was without Cleveland Cavaliers forward Anderson Varejao, who injured an ankle during exhibition action and isn't expected to play until the Brazilians face the United States on Monday.
The Brazilians are already without another injured NBA big man, forward Nene, but they still have Splitter, the MVP of Spain's ACB League last year who is headed to the San Antonio Spurs.
Center Hamed Haddadi of the Memphis Grizzlies scored 16 points for Iran, the Asia champions making their debut in the worlds.
Tiago improved in the second half. Brazil ran some plays for him and he took advantage. He did a nice job holding on to Haddadi though I do think he did a poor job protecting the rim. Not a lot to gather from this game, the one against US should be much more informative.
How'd our boy look guys? I completely forgot about the game and missed it, but you can bet your ass I'm gonna watch the Brazil-USA game on Monday.
splitters going to be just fine with us, like i said hes a winner
thanks!
He is going to benefit from playing with Manu more than any new player on the team.
Just imagine how he going to benefit with Parker passing to him
I think Splitter looks ready for the NBA. He'll probably get caught for a few moving screens until the officials get to know him. He does have a knack on screen/rolls at keeping the screened player slightly out of the play.
He's an NBA starter, if Pop chooses to do so.
Watching him today, I thought the exact same thing. When they get it rolling they could be a really fun combination to watch.
Splitter is going to be a great fit with the Spurs. He looked very good today.
Splitter
Saviour
Player
Long
Intelligent
Tough
Tall
Energetic
Rough N tough
Haddadi does play in the NBA with the Memphis Grizlies
Did you see how nonchalant he was after that spectacular dunk? Him and Timmy will be the best of friends.
And like others have said, Manu and Splitter will be great together. Maybe even better than Manu and Blair were last year, and that's saying something.![]()
I completely agree. He needs to adjust those screens and it might take some time but most other things will translate immediately. I think his passing and craftiness will make him immediately popular among his new teammates.

The 2010 FIBA World Championship kicked off today in Turkey and for San Antonio Spurs fans, eyes were on Brazil, France and Lithuania as Tiago Splitter, Nando de Colo and Robertas Javtokas played for their respective countries.
Here is how they did today in their opening round games.
de Colo:
Though the French national team pulled off the upset to defeat Spain, the defending World Champions, de Colo had a game to forget.
He played in the first half but did not see action in the second half. He drew the tough defensive assignment to guard Spain's Ricky Rubio but it was the Spanish defense on de Colo which seemed to throw him off his game.
Though he did show flashes of aggressiveness going to the rim in the first quarter when he drove strong into the lane against Spain's Marc Gasol but missed the shot.
He finished the game scoreless, got one steal which led to an easy score for France and drew a charge on the defensive end.
Javtokas:
Javtokas did not have a good game as well as Lithuania faced New Zealand. He played four minutes, shot 50% from the field, grabbed one rebound, had one blocked shot and scored two points.
Splitter:
Splitter had the tough assignment of guarding Iran's big man Hamed Haddadi who also plays for the Memphis Grizzlies. On two occasions, Haddadi blocked Splitter's shot attempts.
Splitter did show an all around game which should bring a smile to Spurs fans next season. He used his body well in the paint to get to the basket and even picked up the "and 1" in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Splitter showed he can pass out of the paint when he found a Brazilian player at the opposite end of the court for an easy score. He also showed a knack for getting steals and scored most of his points in the paint.
At the half he scored seven points.
In the third quarter, Splitter showed he can run on the break and got a slam-dunk for Brazil but he continued to have the tough defensive assignment on Haddadi.
In the fourth quarter, Splitter had a huge dunk off a fast break and in the next play he ran the floor for an easy lay-up on a Brazil fast break.
What he showed was he can run up the court on fast breaks, cut to the rim, footwork in the paint and is constantly moving around the basket.
He finished the game with 13 points, shot 60% from the field, made 1/1 free-throws, grabbed four rebounds, had one assist, one steal and had one blocked shot in 23 minutes of play.
