oh, and it's not just the Gasol trade.

Remember how suddenly Derek Fisher had this huge need to leave Utah and used his daughter's eye problem as an excuse?

"Please let me out of my contract, my daughter! do it for the kids =("

Utah : "Ok, Derek, but we will only release you if you give us your word that you will not go to the Lakers"

    Derek : "I promise"

    *signs with Lakers*

Seriously. Behind the scenes collusion, but Stern is in on it. Lakers-Celtics = $$ for the NBA at the time.

    It's simple

It was collusion. Mitch Kupchack got the credit for the trades and moves, but let's be frank.

Jerry Buss, Jerry West, and probably more Laker family members, began to work behind the scenes to get done :

    1) Bryant wanted out of LA.

    2) The Celtics just got KG and Ray Allen

So basically, LA was going to end up in the NBA lottery for the next few seasons while the Celtics dominated the NBA Finals.

This was easy motivation. Buss didn't want to lose Bryant and have the Celtics succeed at the same time.

I'm even positive David Stern had a hand in it. Reviving the Lakers-Celtics? Good for the league.

Mitch got all the credit, but it was ing obvious there was cheating involved behind the scenes.

would have been much better if the Lakers could have kept Marc Gasol. People act as if he wasn't part of the deal and is just a stiff. Dude can ball.

QFT. Plus Kwame's expiring KT was one of the biggest ones out there - which is what Memphis wanted. Not to mention the Logo was no longer part of the Memphis organization at the time of the trade. Little known fact: MK had been after Gasol at least a year before the trade went down. Memphis wasn't ready then. Gasol was disgruntled. Then there was another year of mediocrity for the Grizzlies. Then boom! They were ripe for a trade of the big Spaniard. Haters gone hate though.

Through three games, Gasol has been the best player in the West. I always said if Mamba kept his shot attempts to around 17-19 a game and let Gasol put up an equal amount of shots, Gasol would flourish even more.

MiamiHeat brings up some good points in this thread, TBH..

I never really looked at the Gasol trade as a collusion-type deal, but after reading some of his points, it makes you wonder..

I've been scared of that for a while now..if Gasol got the ball more than Kobe, they would actually be even scarier than they currently are, even though they're the 2 time champs..

Fortunately, Kobe will never let that happen in the playoffs..

BTW, is LkrFan the worst poster here?..

HarlemHo links a 2007 topic from LG to prove a point? Of course Laker fans were frustrated. We were wasting Kobe's prime with the starting lineup of Smush, Kobe, LO, Cook and Kwamay Brown.

Then MK waived his magic wand and netted the big Spaniard. And all is well in La La land.
Um, that's the point of the thread..an article about Kupchak's GM'ing before the Gasol trade..

Honestly, do you purposely try to look so ing stupid all the time, or what?..

Combine the Gasol trade with the Derek Fisher fiasco and you can see things were going on behind the scenes to build a team in LA.

    through questionable means.

I am 100% positive there was tampering in Derek Fisher's case. promised him a starting job in LA but you gotta get out of your contract in Utah.

That was not the point of the thread, not initially at least. You should have linked that forum topic you trolled to find on LG in your original post.

Anyway, who cares what you think? That wasn't collusion. Let me guess, in order for the other NBA teams to foil that deal, MK should have had a conference call with all of the other GMs? That way they can all know that the Lakers were about to rule the NBA again and put a stop to it.

Collusion is 3 spoiled rich athletes getting together to try to win because they can't beat Kobe. I remember that tweet by the 2nd fiddle (on his own team ) saying he didn't feel so good literally minutes after Kobe clinched #5 over the Celtic s . By next summer, he recruited his BFFs for a chance. Too bad he didn't count on MK fortifying our bench to thwart the 3 perimeter oriented players.

In closing, yeah, MK did a great job in putting the Lakers back on top. Thing is, the championship window is open for another 3-4 years... easily. And there is nothing the Hype can do about it, tbh.

When people discuss the Gasol trade they point out it changed the west. This is true, but didn't trading Shaq in 2004 change the west as well? Kwame Brown had a huge expiring contract. No need to give up talent when that's all Memphis would take. Memphis wouldn't have taken Odom for Gasol because Lamar wasn't expiring. Same thing about sending Gasol to the Bulls for Deng, he wasn't expiring either.

As far as I know Mitch took grad classes in management at UCLA and was mentored by Jerry West. The rest he learned for himself. On the job training, for what it's worth.

I had to hunt for this as I ran into it some time ago, but a Lakers fan predicted the Kwame Brown for Pau Gasol trade a year in advance:

    The comments are interesting.

Posted: Wed Jan 24, 2007 9:27 am Post subject: DM is calling it: Gasol for Kwame + ending contracts (My trade idea for Gasol)

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have no inside info, just a hunch. Bynum's rapid development has caused a problem for the Lakers. Kwame Brown can only play center in the triangle and Bynum is clearly only a center. There are only so many minutes for each player. Translation: Unless Brown can play PF he has no future with the Lakers as Bynum is clearly our future at Center.

Next: Gasol demands a trade to a contender. West still has Laker ties and he is looking to rebuild his team. We can offer him Kwame plus the ending contracts of Mihm, Shamoo & Mckie. We can throw in a first or second round pick to if needed.

Why would the Grizz do this? They have no choice. Once a player demands a trade, their trade value goes to the basement. No team will offer up their star players for Gasol because they know that they don't have to. The Grizz will be forced to trade Gasol for less than market value, that is a proven fact in the NBA. Shaq, Iverson, Vince Carter ect. Most teams will offer up their malcontents and ending contracts. It will be up to West to pick the winner.

The Grizz are in total rebuilding mode, they would welcome the cap relief and the fact that Kwame only has one more year left on his contract.

Then we have Kwame firing his agent today. There are a lot of articles hinting that the Lakers are going to make a deal before the deadline. We don't need Kidd. I don't know, it just seems like it could happen. Ok FLAME AWAY!

Pau would be good fit on the Lakers since he can play PF next to Bynum and Odom can move back to the 3 with Walton now comming off the bench as our sixth man.

This has been obvious for so long-everyone knew this when it happened.

There has never been any question that this was not collusion.
