I'm not high on Peja at all, never have been, so I don't think he's going to make a difference..

I'm still concerned about the Mavs' lack of a secondary scorer..it reminds me of the Spurs' big man situation..they have a bunch of solid "complimentary scorers" that can have big nights, occasionally(similar to how the Spurs have solid #3/4 big men, but no reliable #2), but still lack the consistent scorer from the perimeter..I'm high on Beaubois, so I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes that guy, but I don't know if I would risk it..

The positive thing for the Mavs is that they only need a #2 scorer, not an all-around player as a #2..

Personally, I think this team is capable of being similar to the Pistons teams from the early-mid 2000s. They didn't really have any truly elite scorers, period, but had a lot of guys who had specific skill-sets that worked in good harmony with each other, leading to them having an offense efficient enough to win, combined with damn good defense. The Mavs arent as good defensively, but are definitely better offensively, but are still built in a similar way, in that they have a number of different pieces and skillsets that fit together on both ends of the court, resulting in mainly a team effort through all phases of the game, as opposed to relying on one or two guys when things get tough. It definitely is capable of working, but I agree that a second reliable scorer would make things a lot easier.

I agree, that's why I don't think they need an all-around #2 guy like Iguodala or whoever, because they have all-around role players that can give them what they need..

I just think they're still too reliant on Dirk..last night, for example, Dirk played one of the worst games I've ever seen him play..they escaped with a W against a bad team, which is obviously a positive, but they needed Barea to go into Kobe mode, which will happen like once a year..if they had another consistent scorer, they could at least survive nights where Dirk doesn't play at a superstar level..every other team has guys that can go off for 20 on any given night, other than Orlando..

Other than that, Dallas has every tool to go far..I still think they can beat the Lakers or Spurs in a 7-game series, but I don't think they have the personnel to win 3 consecutive series' against the Lakers, Spurs and Heat/Celtics, which would be difficult for any team, but even more difficult for a team that will need consistent scoring from either Terry, Barea, Kidd, Marion, etc..

When was the last time the Mavs had a legit, #2 scoring option? Thats been their problem for awhile imo.

Maybe if they still had Butler i could buy this. The Mavs rely on scrubs like Jason Terry and JJ Barea to score or their offense can't score enough to win. We have seen what how Terry, JJ, Marion and Kidd score in the playoffs. They don't.

It seems like Kevin Martin is a guy that fits your description. I know the Mavs FO really likes him and almost traded for him last year. I don't know his availability now, but I don't the rockets would give him up cheap (especially to a division rival)

Mavs are flat out balling. The fact they are doing this with Dirk and a bunch of number 3 & 4 guys is incredible. Spurs keep winning and can't put them away.

HH is correct. Mavs need a legit #2 offensive option if they are going to go really far. Having said that, there is no way this team gets bounced in the first round.

If things end as they currently are, they will have to play the Lakers in the 2nd (which is really like a conference final) and that is where they will fall short unless they make a trade.

Go Mavs = prepare to take out the Lakers in the 2nd round so the Spurs can take out the Mavs again this year, but it will more fun as it will be a Texas matchup in the WCF
