That an award to a horrid musician posing as a redneck who embraces the iconography of white supremacy, including the Confederate battle flag is actually being debated within the NAACP speaks to how strange, foolish, and vapid American life has become.

If confederates can fly the confederate flag, Neo nazi's should wave a Swastika flag around hollywood , that would be hilarious............or better yet the hammer and sickle at tea party conventions.

But yet again.. Kid Rock doing this is just the same as African Americans saying the prohibited N-word to each other......

There's a public library in SA, which used to be a private residence, and if you step out on the side porch and look up, you see a number of small tile swastikas. After all these years, they're still, to my knowledge, there.
The Landa Branch library near Trinity?

I'm not a big confederate flag waiver... used to be a texas flag waiver...

    That being said...

Slavery lasted a LOT longer under the US flag than the confederate one... and Lincoln didn't free any slaves under his control.

The confederate flag, to me is about states rights and an agricultural aristocracy.. that still survives today after 150 years of emancipation.

There isn't anything racist about it. The south and ALL southerners are constantly bombarded by the north and far west as being backwater hicks. They have a symbol that they identify with... that the people that constantly call them backwater hicks now want to take away from them.

Shrug. I totally see it as a symbol of pride rather than a symbol of hate for some. I totally see it being a symbol SOME hate.

It isn't being used as a symbol of hate for most people. Just because some people hate it doesn't mean the ones that use it should be forced to stop.

    "agricultural aristocracy"

    ... based on slave labor.

If slavery wasn't racist, why weren't there any white slaves? Were there any voluntary white agricultural workers "slaving" alongside the Negroes?

The South wanted to keep their agricultural economy, and wealth, running on cheap black slave labor. They thought they had an en lement to exploit slaves.

The South figured the blacks didn't have a "God-given, inalienable" RIGHT to be free men.

If Secession wasn't about slave labor, why didn't they just release the slaves rather than go to War that their agricultural economy was bound to lose to the industrial North?

Yes. That would seem to be a more authentic example for those who seek to justify their provocative use of offensive symbols through a prior interpretation.

Naturally, you have to look to find those tiles.
