I see Mehmet Okur part II. Slow, no D, some post moves, shoots with range.

    E.Lorbek unsure about Eurobasket

Getting traded by Indiana Pacers to San Antonio Spurs has opened up new possibilities for the Slovenian star who will take everything into consideration before making any decisions.
Lorbek said "My wish is to play in NBA. Every basketball player dreams of this. Barcelona wants to renew my contract. There is a problem with playing for the National Team and this concerns me," and continued "I'm undecided, I will wait for Barcelona's offer as this will be 'the contract of my life' and then I will decide what and how I will do."

Just trying to squeeze as much out of Barcelona as possible. He has no real intentions of playing in the NBA.

You're probably right. If he truly want's to come over there will be a workable out clause in his new contract.

The lockout is killing the few chances Spurs had to add Lorbek to their team. It truly sucks. Spurs' fans are condemned to see 20-25mpg of Bonner next year. Awesome!

Why would Lorbek come over this year regardless of the lockout? Does he have a favorable buyout clause in his current contract?

Damn this lockout....even if he was considering coming over he definitely won't be anymore.....sucks because this guy somewhat reminded me of Randolph with the his good below the basket game....not sure if he can rebound as well though.

It seems that he has an opt out clause for the NBA in his contract:

Just a related aside: Under the old CBA, I'm not sure if many around her knew that a team could actually contribute more than 500K towards a players buyout overseas. The 500K comes from that being the amount a team can contribute without it counting against the cap. If you have cap space, you can contribute more than 500K, but it counts against the cap.

    Just a random thing.

I pitty the people who think that playing for one's country is the single most important thing in an athlete's life.

I don't understand why everyone is so disappointed that he's interested in playing next year and getting paid. The NBA might not play so he's just doing what any of us would do. If we could do what we love and do well and get paid really good for it versus sit on our butts not getting paid, then I think we would go the paid route. Why is everyone so concerned (in a negative way) that he has intelligence enough to figure this out?

Sounds like there is an opt-out clause in his contract. But even if it doesn't have an opt-out, he signed a 1 yr deal for a reason. He's coming over. So the calvary is on it's way, piece by piece. Patience Spurs faithful, patience.

Kind of like the morons that think the NBA is something special.
It's special enough that Greeks can't play in it.

That first paragraph was spot on. I don't know if he'll ever be a Spur but I certainly agree that remaining in europe for at least this year with its financial security and his established strength as a player over there is his best option

This is a shortened quote of what Lorbek said here (in Slovene): http://www.siol.net/sportal/kosarka/...p_v_litvi.aspx

Whats its interesting is that he opens up with this sentence (talking about the trade):
With this change of rights the NBA has become much more appealing to me.

Wow, that's lame. Lorbek has still earned some serious money by playing in Europe and the 2011 Eurobasket is important with the Olympic games in London as goal.

Exactly. He earned a lot in the last few years so $ should not be an excuse.

I am going to Lithuania with my friends; across Europe to support them and now the best player won't play...

Even if Slovenia doesn't do well in this tournament, Lithuania is a great place for an Eurobasket. It should be fun.
