This reminds of the once sad fable of a guy who sent a friend request on ST seeking to offer what little he had to give to another person of the same species. Only, the friend request sat unread because the person was on vacation. As the days passed the person who sent his friendship the only way he knew how, grew increasingly disheartened as he was ignored. He didn't know he was on vacation. Then as the darkness grew, he decided life wasn't worth it any more. It was over. Just as it ended, a message popped up: Request Accepted.
