Or Tim Duncan in 2003. MVP and Finals MVP in the same year, hard to argue that, especially on the 2nd year of a b2b MVP.
The finals MVP has nothing to do with it. winning both was impressive ...no doubt. But IIRC I think Kidd was in heavy consideration that year as well. But I agree I would of voted Duncan.

My point was Shaq was almost unanimous choice that year and was deservedly so. Man, I wish shaq would of given us a few more years like 2000. I though he had turned the corner and would go after MJ as GOAT ...

And I wish you would quit saying "would of".

Meh I care little about internet forum grammar, as you can tell. But if shaq had the work ethic of Duncan or Kobe he had an outside shot at GOAT status.

I don't think so, because he had no skills outside of the paint. He couldn't hit a FT, his foot work wasn't great and he didn't really defend outside 8'.

His strength was his size, and after getting with Phil, his at ude. His size was also his detriment though, because he was bound to taper off quickly. He became a liability. I think Shaq did as well as could be expected. He would never have been the GOAT. Unstoppable force during his time, absolutely, but fairly sharp rise and decline in terms of effectiveness.

If he kept his weight in check and worked to get his FT's up to around 70% he would of easily been the GOAT, talking about a guy who averaged 30 points on nearly 60% shooting in his prime...damn.

Agree, to disagree. IF shaq was as focused as he was after PJ joined he wins at least one le with the Magic. And he wins a few more with the Lakers. again, this is just conjecture but you have plenty of folks that think that already despite the limits to his game that you mentioned ... guys (like chuck and Kenny) l have called him the most dominant player since MJ. Many have him rated over Kobe and Duncan.
With better shape and focus he would not pass MJ in book, but to say he dint have a shot is being short-sighted. Plus with that focus he develops a Duncan type bank-shot or mid range game. Remember despite his injuries and penchant for Krispy Kremes Shaq almost lasted 20 years ...with a more rounded post game and and less weight on his joints ...who knows?

Whatever the case, egos always seem to kill greatness.

His size was his strength, but his size was also his detriment. It's why he got so tired getting down court.

Even ty alternate usernames should get that.
