What the case are you trying to make? Seriously? They were SWEPT IN THE SECOND ROUND, AND SINCE THEN THEIR ROSTER HAS BECOME INFINITELY WORSE. Gone are the only 2 bench players who did anything, including the 6MOY.

Pau is older, no longer motivated, and just vaginal on most nights (save for the Celtic game). Barnes and Artest give you nothing offensively.

If you think Phil Jackson makes this pile of a contender then you SERIOUSLY overrate the value of coaching.

Mike Brown sucks, but he would need to be God to fix this .

He's an aging, uncir cised euro with zero motivation. Burning some incense and meditating for 45 minutes every practice won't change that.

It has become a sad day in now for Kobe and the Lakers. I feel so sorry for the Lakers that I can't even bring myself to root against Kobe anymore. It's a solemn act to watch Kobe play now in the twilight of his career but still balling as best he can while teammates drop around him like flies. Artest old, fat, unproductive and bearing a new name. Fisher's ass having grown too large to slide defensively or guard undrafted D Leaguers. Matt Barnes, just not that good. Walton riding the pines and Richard Jefferson's pole. Pau crying over his worth. It's like the end of the movie "300" where all hope is lost but King Leonidas keeps fighting on until the bitter end.

Don't (fully) agree with this but it is a fun read on a point that comes up every year:

"Kobe isn't having a bad year, averaging 29.3 PPG, 5.8 RPG and 5.4 APG with a PER of 25.47, but there's more to those statistics than meets the eye.

Sure, Kobe's leading the league in scoring, but he's doing so by also leading the league in field-goal attempts with a whopping 599 on the year. Just to help put that number into perspective, the next closest player to Kobe is sharp-shooter Kevin Durant, who's put up 494 field-goal attempts on the year.

The absurd amount of shots that Kobe's jacked up this year wouldn't be an issue if the Lakers were dominating their compe ion, but they're not—which is in large part due to the offensive production that Kobe takes away from other players on the Lakers roster, like Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol.

In addition to taking offensive production away from his teammates, Kobe's crazy amount of field-goal attempts is an issue because he's shooting at 44.4 percent from the field this year, which isn't anything to call home about.
