Now that I think about it...the last time someone started a thread "Should Manu or Duncan win MVP?" we lost 2 straight blowout games. I hope this doesn't jinx us.

It's a big "if" at this point -- Detroit is far from done.

Bruce deserves MVP for the entire playoffs. It was his consistent D throughout that enabled the Spurs to get here.
    zzz...zzz...zzz
    j/k.

I know where you're coming from, Bowen's been my favorite player since he came to SA.

But the League will not give the MVP to a defensive specialist averaging .003 points per game.

In addition to great D, Bowen is averaging 9 points per game and has hit 10-for-22 from 3 in this series. I said it after game 2 and everyone laughed at me, but he deserves to be MVP of the Finals IF the Spurs win. Nobody thought he'd win Player of the Week this year, but he did that too. So hopefully (yes, I still seriously doubt it) the voters will give him his due.

But this series isn't over yet. And a huge game from either Manu or Tim could give them on a lock on it. And if the Pistons pull out two victories at the SBC, then that changes everything.

WO! Let me just clarify something here! Even though Tim is the anchor ot the Spurs I would NOT consider him the MVP of this series.Game four at the Palace will forever be in Spurs minds. How can a 29 y/o MAN,be on the bench head down, crying, and not helping his team win on the court?Game five should have been won by Duncan on that last possesion before regulation but he missed that!He ass was definitely save by Horry last night, becuase that game could have been easily been lost.
I say right now neither Duncan nor Ginobili have a grip on anything.Whoever does a better job on closing these Pistons should get MVP.

I think I've asked this once before but it got lost in the thread. I can't find the answer by googling (really, I tried). Who votes on the finals mvp and how? I would assume it's sports journalists. The award is presented at the end of the final game, yes? So, how and when do they cast their vote. Does anyone know?

As I said yesterday, it's Tim's to lose. But it's close. Whoever steps up and has a big game tonight (assuming we win of course) will get it.

hmmm, the prospect of bowen winning it does sound pretty amazing, and i think now with all the crap bowen has gone through this year (dirty player, slander) it would be well deserved

but when we start talking about deserving an mvp award, tim duncan does not fade away from the forefront.

He's ing Duncan guys. Sure imo he blew it in games 3, 4, and 5, but he still had rebounds, still had to arm wrestle with the wallace brothers, still was our first option and still anchored the defense just as much as Bowen!

Duncan deserves this. But if Bowen won, i wouldn't be pissed.
    pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease lets win tonight!!!

My vote (OK, IF I had a vote) would be for co-MVPs:

Bruce Bowen and whoever shows up big in the final game (Duncan or Ginobili, I suppose, are the favorites).

Why not? Surely we would not have gotten this far without great defense, and as Pop says, "It all starts with Bruce."

Bruce never takes a play off. He works as hard or harder than anyone else on the court.

That would be too sweet - a defender finally getting his due.

And people, let's just keep this in perspective and remember one thing. Tim has put up these numbers while being guarded a lot of the time by THE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR!

Ben Wallace got that le for a reason. He is a monster in the paint.

If you want to criticize Tim's performance, go ahead. By doing that you not only insult him, you insult Ben Wallace.
It's been quite a match-up, makes for good basketball watching. Both Ben and Tim have had their moments in this series

If the series had ended after 5, Tim MVP easy.
