You'll have to show me the franchise contract first. Stern and Holt/RC will hash that out and if there's no violation there will likely be no penalty.
there's nothing anywhere that says the team has to play their players. If there was then we'd just see a return of guy's sitting out for "back spasms" and "flu like symptoms" everyone knew it was going on so they ins uted the inactive player list.

The only thing going through my head is Deputy Commissioner Silver saying "Strategic resting of particular players on particular nights is within the discretion of the teams." If there was a problem, I don't see that coming out of his mouth this past April.

It did, but Pop didn't do it because the Spurs might lose. He wanted them to perform well in front of Spurs fans in SA. Those are the people who pay Pop's salary. Stern sees a bigger picture, all NBA fans, because that's who pays his salary.
No he wants them to beat their divisional opponent and conference rival. That Sat. game if vastly more important than the Heat game in tiebreaker scenarios alone. The first home game back from a long road trip is the worst.

You have to be able to differentiate "strategic resting" and "absence of players". It might seem like the same thing, but it's not. The Spurs could have rested their players on the 2nd of that b2b when they played OT in Toronto. They could have played the bench against the Wizards and still won. Why pick the nationally televised game? I think franchises have a duty to represent the league on the national stage. Pop seems to be more of an isolationist and I don't see how that's good for business. I don't disagree with Pop's call, and I find it entertaining theater, but from an outside view I think Pop's job is also to rep the league, not just the Spurs.

Which would mean performing well at home in the next game. Spurs will lose that home game btw. It always happens when Pop rests starters for the next game.

Yes they are i expect foul trouble and the game to be called really tight as a counter middle finger from Stern to pop.

Holt signs the check. This was the 4th game in 5 nights. If they play the Big 3 against an aggressive team like Miami tonight, and something happens to one of the players, fans and others are asking Pop why did he play these guys on the 4th game in 5 nights. Why didn't he rest them? Pop was doing what was best for his players, which he considers like his family. Not a damn thing wrong with what he did.

what I want to know if sanctions are also going to be handed out to teams that blatantly tank... sit uninjured players out with some BS excuse to get better odds in the lottery...

not that I would be against that, tbh.

The league hands out fines on a case by case basis. It's not case law.

LG is in love with Pop about now. They would roast Mike D over an open fire and eat his knee replacement to get Pop as a coach (oddly that wouldn't help them as Pop doesn't coach big personalities and egos).

I know exactly what you're talking about..I see just fine. But the bottom line is, going by Stern, this is supposed to be about the players, not the money.

How will they justify punishing the Spurs and not anyone else?

They don't have to justify it to us. The league is supposed to be representing the customer (us). I'm not supporting Stern, but I do see the problem. It's a slippery slope if you let it be, but the so was flopping and just making a penalty for it seems to have really quelled it. Other teams likely will be more careful but Pop is the only person I've ever seen go that far.

No, he apologized to the fans, not to the players. When a CEO apologizes to his customers, it's always about the money.

He apologized to the fans for what ended up being a five point loss, that was close till the end

    Chalres put it best....

    Pop Plays chess, not checkers.

Stern has made this a checkers game. Regardless of the situation, Im thankful to Pop for thumbing his nose at the current NBA standard. In the end, its about championships and Pop hasnt lost sight of that. that doesnt mean the Spurs will win it all, but the ideology behind it is sound in regards to the current state of the NBA.
