There's no gun. The hypothetical question puts a gun against a knife in terms of inherent danger. A knife doesn't need to be loaded, it's ready to go. Just being a knife makes it more dangerous than a gun. The term "gun" doesn't include, by default, a loaded gun however.

However, even a loaded gun isn't inherently dangerous. Cops carry all the time, as do millions of CHL holders and we've not experienced any ill effects. Knives are also not inherently dangerous. What's dangerous are people who use these things to hurt other people.
