Im like Dwight's FT % on him returning ... 50-50

    1. He stays and accepts that he is a #2 (doesnt have to be Achiles as the #1) and can not win a le as the alpha. I would hope he stays and takes a slightly less deal like Lebron to help build a contender ...

    2. If he wants complete max to stay with no regard for building a le (which is his right he got 5 kids and the baby mamas to support) and wont take a smaller deal to win like Lebron ...Then I say let him walk. Let the two lessor TeXAS TEAMS fight over him and pay him max money. (BTW the Lakers can still sign & trade him (Read that somewhere) but because we are over the cap the options are limited. IF Morey wants him THAT bad squeeze Robinson, a draft pick and Asik. They still wont win a le and though he will help dat ty defense offensively that is a bad fit. Congesting the lane when Harden's best weapon is the drive and flop game makes little sense. Dwight is a good screener but also picks up cheap fouls on it as well. He also sucks at FT and the low post so I dont think it's an ideal match ...Dallas makes more sense because just like with Tyson Dirk is great at what Dwight is not and he is teh best stretch 4 the league has ever seen. Mavs make more sense especially if they could get a PG. (But if Dwight was smort he would try to get to the Warriors Steph Curry would be an even better fit for him with his shooting).

    3. Though a bit concerned I will not fret over Dwight's saga this summer. Let him enjoy the attention and the drama. If he is our best player next year we still aint winning even if PJ and achilles come back.

Team would suffer in the short-term but would probably be better off with A clean house and Achilles taking the full year to recover. IF Dwight walks you trade Pau, convine Kobe to sit and pray for Nash to get healthy. You give D'antoni one year (if PJ won't come back) with a run n gun team and then you come back stronger in 2014.

Not suggesting we tank, but no need to spend crazzy $ on a team with no shot. We went all in this year I would accept the ownership being frugal for ONE season ...

The Lakers CAN sign and trade Howard next season -- they just can't actually receive players in return for him as they are currently constructed. They could get draft picks, cash and/or the rights to overseas players for him, though. The problem is with there being no advantage for the the player to do an S&T under the new CBA, it's not likely that a team would give the Lakers anything when they'd need the full cap space to sign Howard in either scenario.

There are, however, scenarios where it would be possible for the Lakers to get something back. If the team receiving Howard had to move players to make it happen, then they could do a three-way trade with another team to free up space. This could involve the Lakers taking back a player using their tiny trade exception. Also (and much more likely), if the Lakers amnesty Bryant or Gasol, they'd have enough room to do an S&T for Howard, although they may not necessarily be able to receive the full amount of Howard's salary in return.

Sign anf trades don't work like that anymore. He's either a Laker or he walks.
    I see, new CBA?

Dwight is the biggest attention since Rodman IMO. at least Rodman was entertaining. He could easily skip all the drama and focus on improving his game in the off season, yet he looks like he wants this off season about him again

Guessing what Dwight Howard will do is not an exact science after the year he had in Orlando last year. I think it would be bad for him and the Lakers if he resigns with LA though. He is never going to live up to the expectations of Laker fans, who are le or bust at this point. I don't ever see him being the best player on a le team. I'm beginning to have doubts he will be the second best player on a le team. I realize NBA owners give out max contracts like they come out of a pez dispenser at this point, but he does not strike me as a max guy anymore. I'd be too worried about his health and his inevitable downfall once his athleticism fades.

Houston is probably the best destination for him at this point. They desperately need inside scoring, and I think Harden is a better first option for Dwight than Kobe was. Kobe is ruthless, and he was never going to take it easy on Dwight's fragile psyche. Dwight needs to be coddled. That is not going to happen in LA.

I know you got fantasies of Dwight clouding your comprehension ... but When I said "Let the two lessor Texas teams ..." read that again and tell me what that means ... and how does that statement even involves the Lakers?! When did the Lakers MOVE To Texas?

BTW, We beat Dallas in our season series, beat them the last game head2head that mattered (this season) and finished ahead of them.

We also beat your team sans Achilles in a game to decide the higher seed.
Houston's future does seem a lot brighter but by the latest evidence, one could argue you are still the lessor team (I am not making that argument) ... just saying.

You're the one suggesting the Lakers get Asik and Robinson when they have no need to trade for him, and the CBA won't allow a good return. I guess I needed to simplify it for you.

I did mess up that part I admit to some degree but just know I read by someome who writes professionally though diffilcult trades are still possible.
TBH, not a CBA fan or expert ...

You can make excuses Djohn but those are the facts. I dont make injury excuses nor accept any but you may be swept just like us and Westbrook it out ... pretty sure if we faced OKC healthy we win at least ONE game ...

But Like I said you have the better future but right now you are a lessor team scoreborad is all that matters.

So if the Lakers amnesty Gasol (or trade him away without taking back any money), they will actually be able to receive a good deal of salary in return for Howard. They'd have about $15 or so Million under the apron, meaning they could try to trade Howard to Atlanta for Al Horford or Josh Smith if they wanted to. If the Lakers amnesty Bryant, or clear both Gasol and Metta World Peace from the books, they could take back a max deal. Los Angeles has options, but they'll have to accept that they're not a contender next year to fully take advantage of them.

If they wanted Asik and Robinson, they could get them, and the Rockets may be inclined to move them if they can get another free agent lined up. I mentioned before that Josh Smith could be a target for them, and they'd have the room to bring both him and Howard and still be under the tax. Lin's deal is just horrible, though.

They would get more pieces by trading Asik, not to the Lakers though. Kevin Love is a more realistic target at PF for them.

I agree in general. I also don't think Asik is a good target for the Lakers. I was just saying that getting Howard would probably trigger moving Asik, and the Lakers could have the salary flexibility to take him and Robinson back if they wanted to.

Kevin Love would be interesting, but I don't think he'd work with Harden and Howard. I'd like him just fine with the current Houston team, though.

Me too. If they don't get Dwight, I'd be good with an Asik/Love frontcourt. The rebounding

Our sweep won't cost $100 million. So I'm guessing the Lakers must be worse than the Magic since they lost to them too right?

True, enough. Doesnt cost me a dime and doesnt have any effect on this argument.
Again, if this matters to you I concede ...
A random game against the Magic versus a game to decide playoff positioning are apples to oranges but again ... if it makes you feel better ... the Rockets ARE BETTER than the Lakers.

But part of the reason we are at $100 mill is due to the player you want so badly ... I hope you get him (if he doesnt stay) ... so I can see if I am right or wrong about his fit with Harden ...

Offense was not their issue. Its limiting the bleeding caused by penetrating quick studs like Ty Lawson, Westbrook, Tony Parker etc. With Gasol most likely gone, they could use another big man willing to bang inside and hustle. I'm not sure Collins fits the bill, he looks like a finesse player with limited moves.
