The pudgy, middle-aged gringo muttered to himself, "What have Mexicans gave the planet?" as he snarfed down a bowl of tomato soup and greedily snatched at an adjacent pile of chocolate-chip cookies. He tugged at the cowboy boot on his left foot as his calf cramped slightly.

The gringo stood up and grabbed his iPod and earphone cord, carefully plugging a bud into each ear. Soon his head was full of the twang of acoustic guitar. "My life would be no different, no worse without Mexico, he thought to himself." Drawing a stick of gum from his pocket, he unwrapped it and put it in his mouth. "Totally useless, they are," he mused.

He flipped on the TV to ESPN. The LA Kings beat the Phoenix Coyotes last night, 4-3. He flipped through the pages of the car magazine on the table. He really liked that Ford Mustang in the chili-red color. "I bet Mexicans couldn't build a car like that," he thought.

He wanted to plan a weekend getaway, but couldn't decide whether to go to Los Angeles, San Diego, or Las Vegas, Nevada. He walked out onto the patio and caught a glimpse of the Sierras far in the distance. "I should put Saltillo tile out here," he thought. He wished he had some weed to smoke.
