Imagine being a Pistons fan in 2005. Do you think that they wondered, "Would we rather see the Pistons play the Suns or Spurs in the Finals?"

Those who preferred the Spurs probably wish Detroit had played the Suns instead.
There's a Piston forum around here somewhere. You should ask them.

I want to, but Heat's role players are Spurs killer. It's going to be a tough 5th, but not impossible. I'm leaning towards a 65-35 chances in favor of Heat.

At the risk of oversimplification, there are two mentalities present here: Low-risk, low-reward, vs. high-risk, high-reward.

Those who prefer low-risk, low-reward would rather face the Pacers. Greater likelihood of winning that 5th trophy, but it wouldn't be as satisfying as beating the Heat.

Those who prefer high-risk, high-reward would rather face the Heat. Less likelihood of winning (in other words, greater risk of losing,) but would be a very satisfying championship if indeed won.

Eye of the beholder and all that. Watching Timmy hoist a fifth trophy would be damned satisfying, period. Over the Heat, over the Pacers - same ing difference to me.

    Low hanging fruit? Yeah, ok.

At the end of the day, it will be one or the other... these debates/preferences will mean little as we face the eventual opponent.
I'd rather believe/trust in our team to be prepared & well rested to give their all once the Finals begin... as I expect them to be victorious, yet again

The key will be Parker regardless. If he plays like a Finals MVP the Spurs will win. It might be easier for him to do that against the Heat.
I don't know but this one concerns me. Putting LeBron or Battier on Parker might be a nightmare for him. I dunno. The only legit whom is 6'7" guards Parker in the Playoffs is Thompson and he's not even that good defender. I dunno. Still having a nightmare when Brooks puts Thabo on Tony. But the brighter side is, Parker has been playing MVP level this year compared last year.

A series win by the Spurs over the Heat would be so much sweeter in that it would not only legitimize the Spurs as NBA Champions, but it would stick a plate of crow down the throats of all those (fans, analysts and pundits alike), who have basically handed the Larry O'Brien trophy to the Heat since the start of the season.

did LeBron try to ever defend Tony in 07 when he was finals MVP?

    I don't recall.

Yup. But 2013 is way way way better than 2007 overall. He's capable of guarding from 1-3 position. I'm not saying that LeBron will guard Parker most of the time but there's a possibility though I think it'll be Battier most of the time. Just like what happened last Western Conference Finals, Brooks puts Thabo on Tony. But just like what I said Parker this year is way better than last year. I dunno. Spurs will need 2010/2011 Ginobili in this NBA Finals too. Leonard and Green too should play active too. I'm not really that confident that the Spurs will dominate against the Heat but I think they can. I'm hoping as well that Battier/Allen/Chalmers continues to struggle.

Yeah, Pacers more like LA and Grizz! They are a big slower team with a weaker backcourt! The Spurs match up better with that style of play.
agree with this one. I am praying Pacers will prevail...

I'd love a Spurs/Heat Finals. For Miami to be team to end the Spurs era once and for all along with handing them their first finals loss will be ing sweeter than the ass ing they gave OKC last year.
Give me one good reason why u would want the spurs era to end?

    Love it!

Since like 1983 or something like that, only 8 teams have won the championship.
Pistons, Lakers, Bulls, Rockets, Celtics, Spurs, Heat, Mavericks(only 1 appearance/win)

A spurs-Indy finals would instantly trigger a "ratings " refund clause in the tv contract. Stern no likee.

I feel we can beat either team. The matchups against Indiana are much more clearly defined and certainly favors us, but Miami looks weaker than last year. With a gimpy wade and bosh being relegated to pure spot up duty, it was awfully reminiscent of the Lebron cavs. Their only real rim protector is birdman, but he's a lesser ibaka on defense while killing their spacing on offense. He cant defend the post, but he's a weakside shotblocker

It's going to be the Heat, even if this goes 7 LeBron will drag this bunch over the finish line even if some of them don't want to go. Then the Spurs just have to go after it. The Heat have flaws and some guys on their team that normally make them a great team are not playing well. Spurs can win the series, how people can be watching them struggle this much with the Pacers and still think we got no chance is beyond me?
