2 years ago? yes. Now? no.
Some team has a chance to strike it rich with a "buy low, sell high" approach to gambling on him. I don't think we're remotely the right team for him though.

It's a no-brainer. With TP-Green-Kawhi-Duncan-Howard and Manu on the reserves we will be the beast of the league.

Think just once what would happen if we had him instead of Splitter this year.

Yes I love Splitter, but Howard is a different story. We wouldn't allow more than 80 points in a game. And he can keep his ego under the Pop's management.

Just a ruse from the Howard camp to entice LA to pull the trigger. SA is not a real consideration; it doesn't fit either of Howard's criteria:
    -- total lack of accountability
-- easy access to sex with pornstars
I think that about covers it.

Actually, from what Bruno put in his thread about salaries, even that's not enough. The Spurs would also have to hope Diaw opts out, as roster charges would take away a couple of million from the cap room. Right now, the Spurs have about $38.5 Million guaranteed (counting Bonner's million). The cap will be at $58.5 Million. So as of right now, the Spurs don't have the room.
We could use the stretch provision on Diaw or amnesty Bonner to free up a bit of extra space. It's surely doable.

He'll go somewhere for max money. I don't see any way that doesn't happen. There's no way he leaves money on the table after spending a whole season staring a very nasty fact in the face: his status and reputation as a franchise-caliber player is highly tenuous.

Which is a shame because I really do believe there's a Spurs player buried somewhere underneath all the layers of bull that have built up over the last 2 years. His first few years in the league he was roundly praised for his work ethic. Stan Van Gundy was known as a guy who wasn't going to coddle and Dwight generally rose to the challenge to improve - not unlike Pop and Tony. Then it was like something in his brain just broke and he started doing all his business through the media, which is never a good idea for any player but a particularly terrible one for a guy with so little experience. After a year being miserable under all the spot light in anti-S.A. being coached by the anti-Pop and playing along side the anti-Tim I think he could be made to see the appeal of the Spurs and how they do things.

Overall the price tag is too high for a man with some very big question marks surrounding his health. Even if what I said above held true and he got his head right I don't know that his body won't betray him all too quickly and turn a max contract into a monster albatross.

Hibbert is signed through 2016 I thought we were talking free agents?

I can't see us throwing the kind of money at Jefferson that Utah and others probably will. Surely they would at least offer him the $15 million he got this year with all their cap room.

Great point. He is one more back injury away from becoming an undersized version of late career D Rob with less skill and IQ. D Rob at least always had that nice jumper unlike DH who can't seem to do anything other than dunk and block shots.

Houston would work though. Just replace pornstars with strippers.

He isn't worth the money. He'd ruin our bench, and with Timmy getting another year older Dwight will need to play more. If he gets injured we're extremely thin.

Regarding Dwight's intentions, I'm not saying this isn't a trick to get more money, but perhaps he heard Shaq's criticism and realized that he needs Timmy and Pop to reach his full potential.

Don't forget roster charges take away about $1.5 Million of cap space with the players currently under contract (not including Bonner), so that negates the money the Spurs would save by amnestying Bonner. Stretching Diaw would save $3 Million (only a million after roster charges), and BARELY get the Spurs enough room to sign Howard. It wouldn't really be worth it to do both, as the Spurs only gain enough cap space to sign a minimum contract, or maybe two rookie-min deals.

Dwight was actually coming along the second half of the season with the Lakers. He was looking good again with elite defense prescence. It's just that his team sucked tbh...

Too many questions about Howard's back and I don't want the drama. If he was healthy it'd be a no-brainer to give him a max deal even with his off-the-court garbage, but with his back what it is a Howard max deal could become the kind of dead-weight that would kill the Spurs for the next 4 years. Like a much worse version of Charles Smith (miss 4 layups Charles Smith, not spiderman Charles Smith) or Jefferson.

And Bible Kemp executing an offense as complex as Pop's? (lol who would have thought we'd be saying that 10 years ago when it was 4-down every possession?)

    is Duncan retiring soon?

Because I don't see the point why they have to add Howard.
Unless the Spurs wants to build a new core of players for the future.
    Plus he wants more
And w/ salary cap around $ 41.8, some yet to be signed, can he sign for less?

He can be a big addition to teams because of his size, & he can score & defend. If nurtured by a good coach & he is willing to listen for his betterment he can be successful. A coach like Pop could be great for him, but with his ego as big as Texas he won' fit in San Antonio. Hey, after the 4-0 sweep, he said once he doesn't want to see Duncan #21 jersey, right? And I'm sure he'll see a lot around town & in the locker room

With Dallas after him, and Houston, S.A. just wants to join his free agency like every time when a top player is on the market.

Besides we already have a dunker. No Need.
