It could be speculated that in other parts of the world divorce rates are artificially low due to religious/social pressures. Divorce used to be very frowned-upon in this country, so nobody did it. My grandmother says that when her first husband abandoned her with three small children and disappeared, she filed for divorce. It was so taboo that people she had known her whole life stopped talking to her. People now in this country have the "freedom" to divorce.

I think a large part of the divorce rate is due to the fact that so many people are just emotionally stunted now. They don't have the self-control or discipline or will to work through problems in the marriage. Many also have attachment issues (most of those being children of divorce themselves) who shouldn't get married because they don't have the mental or emotional stability to maintain a relationship.

My husband and I dated 7 years before we both said I do. This past May we celebrated our 6th wedding Anniversary.

I used to ask myself this question ALL the time. I would have to say that if you're still wondering if she's "the one" after 5 years then she probably isn't. What is making you nervous about a relationship this long? Were you in relationships before this? Are you sure its love and not just complacency? Just being comfortable knowing she's there?
