lol homer Spurs fans...Dirk is a super-star....even at his age now.....leader who led team to championship. Safe to say Kawhi will never do that...he's a role player nothing more. Dallas would never do that trade. Get real people

Umm, Dirk WAS a super-star, Kawhi is a super-star in the making. He made LeBron work his butt off for anything he got, Kawhi is and will be more than a role-player.

All right. Since almost no one thinks this is a good thought-trade (myself included), let's change the subject a little bit: Who on the team would be worth trading for Dirk. Let's ignore salary for now and any other practical barrier to the trades and just focus on the players.

Would you trade Splitter for Dirk? Green for Dirk? Ginobili? Diaw? I think most of use would trade the non-rotation players, so just leave them out.
To be honest, not much. I watched Dirk last year, while his shooting hasn't gone anywhere, he's non-existent on the defensive side, and you can see his athleticism going. I'm expecting a huge dropoff here within the next few years. Plus, we need a C, we have plenty of PF's. I supposed Green wouldn't be too bad. We still ahve two good SG's in Belinelli and Ginobili, so we could afford that. Splitter, no, even though Spliter sucked, he has room to grow and he is a C, which we need. So, really, the only starter I think the Spurs could afford to lose for Dirk is Green. On no planet is trading Kawhi for Dirk even close to being a good idea.

21 year old Kawhi is more valuable, particularly to the Spurs than 35 year old Dirk without a doubt. Dirk's last 2 seasons have been a clear drop off following his championship season, and Dirk's never been a good defender anyhow. Small forward is the premier position of the NBA right now. Without a top-tier small forward (either in defense or all-around play), you can't field a championship-contending team

3 years ago, I'd do Dirk-for-Kawhi in a heartbeat. Now, after Kawhi's incredible finals performance, it's not even clear anymore that Dirk is a better player than Kawhi, period.
Given that we wouldn't have to resign Tiago if we got Dirk, we could have brought in someone expensive at SF. I mean there's 0 real SFs on the roster other than Kawhi, obviously that's a hole that would have had to been filled

and I'm not going to overrate a player based on one series. Even at that, a 7 footer that can shoot jumpers is so much more valuable to anyone than a defensive minded SF.

    Dirk + 9 million SF > Kawhi + Tiago

I don't think you're taking into account that Dirk is basically a year younger than Duncan, and there's no guarantee he'd be healthy. Hedging le hopes on three or more 35+ year old vets (even former MVPs) seems incredibly risky. I like Dirk's game, obviously, but based on last year his career is pretty close to over. I don't think he's more valuable than Kawhi anymore.

Some of y'all need to remember Kawhi is young as and some of his friends may not be as large, black, and intimidating as him and may look closer to what a typical 21 year old chode looks like
