Kobe Bryant predicts Jason Collins will have a 'domino effect ... way beyond sports'
Here are the highlights of what Bryant -- who is sidelined with a knee injury -- said before the Nets beat the Lakers in Collins' first game after signing a 10-day contract earlier in the day:
• "His impact (Sunday night) is greater than what people think," Bryant told Yahoo Sports before the game in Los Angeles. "You look at it from the context of having the first openly gay player. But they missed the domino effect that it has way beyond sports."
• "It's fantastic. It sets an incredible precedent. I think the most important part about it, what I've learned on the issue is that one person coming out is showing this type of courage that gives others that same type of courage."
• "It's dealing with a lot of issues for kids who are afraid to be themselves. Afraid to be themselves because of the peer pressure that comes with it. A lot of these kids have depression issues or they're being teased from other kids for being different. You wind up seeing a lot of suicides, kids injuring themselves and getting hooked on things that they should not be hooked on."
• "There is a kid out there who … is going to say, 'Jason gave me strength in dark moments to be brave. He gave me courage to step up and accept myself for who I am despite what others might be saying or the public pressures. He gave me strength and bravery to be myself.'"

Be true t-shirt really? I still want to know what his fiancée thinks on him wearing a "be true" t-shirt.
Hopefully more ty players come as as "gay" just to get a contract now.
I don't have a problem with the media's coverage of the gay agenda, but wow, NBA.com's highlight package of the Nets-Lakers game is embarrassing and condescending, tbh..
The comments on the NBA.com article about his great defensive skills are hilarious. People are really reaching on trying to say anything positive about his basketball skills. It's sad.

NEW YORK -- NBA Commissioner Adam Silver issued the following statement on Sunday regarding Jason Collins' signing of a contract with the Brooklyn Nets:
"Jason told us that his goal was to earn another contract with an NBA team. Today, I want to commend him on achieving his goal. I know everyone in the NBA family is excited for him and proud that our league fosters an inclusive and respectful environment."

I just went and watched it....got halfway through before turning it off. 5 seconds of Paul Pierce going 5/5 in the 1st quarter. 1 minute of talking about how Gayson is a basketball player, got a rebound, set a pick, helped fat Deron off the floor....
I would laugh my ass off if Collins faked this whole gay thing and created this media circus just to stay in the NBA

The people that are praising Jason Collins' basketball skills obviously have never seen him play. Collins was on my Grizzlies when they had Darko Milicic and Kwame Brown and was the worst of the 3. Kendrick Perkins looks like Prime Tim Duncan compared to Jason Collins. The only good thing about that Mayo-Love trade was him going to Minnesota.
The NBA is going to sell his jersey and Brooklyn Nets t-shirts with his name and jersey number on it. Yeah, it's definitely not a marketing move. The sad thing is that the guy is just being used as a pawn for politics. No one is even talking about his basketball skills or I guess lack of basketball skills. He sucks. He sucked when he was banging his female fiancée and lying to her about him liking and he still sucks after telling everyone that he likes . If you suck at what you do, you just suck.
