Steve is an incredible actor and I am being serious. He was also being damn honest which is a good thing and LA made their bed with that trade and contract knowing full well Steve's medical history. Steve should be under no obligation, especially to a franchise like LA, to retire to just save them money.

My question is though, I thought if someone was medically forced to retire, they still got their money. If that's the case, why play that 10th game? Is it because he knows he can still get another contract after this one?

This is so on the money. He will get another contract after this one. He'll get paid something to be a back up or 3rd pg on a team after this contract is over.
