I'm sure the owner of Sony is hurting for money.
It also helped the PS2 out that they launched before the Xbox and that they had the GTA line, which is basically the most successful gaming franchise in the history of gaming consoles. With the release of the PS2, it beat the X-BOX and the Gamecube both in Video game/console sales.
MS has worked its way into the GTA picture, which kills a lot of that. I also think the 360 will do better due to its Internet capabilities as well as the fact its launching early.
And finally, one of the most overlooked aspects of all this is the format wars.
MS has basically a monopoly on computing, and has a partnership with Toshiba to roll out HD-DVD. With the convergence of the home entertainment center, computing, and gaming, the format HD-DVD vs. Blue Ray) that can do a better job in the "home entertainment network" will win.
And like I said, with MS with a near monopoly on computing, I'm betting on the 360/HD-DVD/Toshiba.
I'm sure the owner of Sony is hurting for money.
Simple math...what is the advantage of getting an xbox 360 or ps3 instead of upgrading a desktop computer and buying games for that?
Xbox 360, rumored retail: $299
PS3: rumored retail, $499
New video card: $500
New Sound card: $200
1 GB RAM: $100
New processor: $300
New mobo: $199
(now add up those numbers for a computer, and then factor in needing a new system every two years for computing games).
Anyone who wanted to play Doom3 when it came out for PC had to go out and get at least a $300 video card.
Doesn't make much sense to me.
It's all about taste. Depending on what you want PS = RPG/Action-Adventure/Fighting/Sports slow loading times, least amount of HD etc.
XBOX = Sports/FPS/Stealth/Racing/Somewhat Fighting&RPG ( I've played on the BOX)
but with better load times. XBOX beats PS2 in online play with most of the online games being sports, racing and FPS X-BOX's system is more modeled to play and run games with higher polygon counts faster than the PS2. If you're more high end on Sport and FPS games then X-BOX is the best. If you're into other genres then PS2 or if you're rich you can own all of them and don't have to . And what is a 'mobo'?
Sheesh...who'd thought grown men would get all touchy about Video games....I mean damn...get your fat asses out of the house and do something...exercise...go to the park...go for a walk with your girlfriend....it's just a freakin video game console...you people are acting like you own a piece of the damn company...quite sad in some ways...what's this FAT ass country coming to...and personally...I couldn't give about what you buy and for what reason...
My girlfriend likes to play video games with me, she got all exicted the other day cause she kicked my ass in the battle mode on Star Wars Episode III. What is the world coming to alright, when girls are getting better at video games other than Ms. Pac man
[Mrs. Boucher] Bill Gates is the devil...[/Mrs. Boucher]
If you don't want to see peoples opinions....then stop reading. You are on a forum aren't you? Sheesh. Like we own the damn company?Nah, but don't us all pretend that we own the Spurs sometimes when we come up with fantasy trades? It goes both ways, doesn't it?
mobo = mother board
I'm not much for shooter games so the X was never really appealing because of Halo. But PS does have a vast selection of games compared to XBOX. Now that might change this yr, but thats why I'll wait and see.
If the PS3 is 100+ more, than yeah I'll just go with the XBOX, but I doubt they'll be higher. That would be stupid on their part. I've read Sony will be just as good or better than the Xbox, so it just a matter of opinion.
The HD/DVD doesn't sway me much because I'll always use my DVD player for DVD's.
i hope that rumor that the PS3 being anywhere from $100-$200 higher doesn't turn out to be true, but you know there will be fanboys who will still buy it. i plan on just getting both, problem solved.
There's one thing I don't understand about the XB360, do you need an HDTV to play it.
no way, it'll work on any TV
Did anyone here see the Microsoft press conference before E3 it was the biggest load of crap in the world. The guy was talking about the HG generation and how they expect 1 billion customers. They even had plants in the audience, you could tell because they cheered for Tomb Raider.
oh yeah, i saw that, i don't know about HD or Blu-Ray yet, just have to wait and see which format wins and which one becomes the next "Beta". Even if they do get 1 billion customers and half that hooked up to Xbox Live, 95% of them will still act like idiots over Xbox Live, just like they currently do.![]()
Yeah they are assholes on XBL especially the Kids age 8-15.
Portability
yeah but even the 18-25 group can be idiotic! and supposed the xbox 360 will have video capabilities, so imagine all the " shots" that will be up as profile pics!(don't get any ideas GiG!)![]()
Yes. I mean I heard the rave about Halo II awhile back but even then I didn't pay much attention.
Why is it so popular amongs the college crowd?
Is it a "strategy" game?
It's strength is the multiplayer where you can basically customize everything.
prices for Xbox 360:
299.99 - console with wired controller
399.99 - console with wireless controller, 20GB harddrive, headset and remote control
Also heard rumor that it might initially ship with a plain DVD, not HD-DVD.
didn't hear that, but as long as the games rock...![]()
now i need to compile my list of launch les to pick up with my 360 on release day...
