One SpursTalk account per IP address......Stop the cowards from hiding behind multi screen names......
right, posters should only hide behind one screen name. You guys are all pussies. I've looked at this site for years, the first few without saying anything or creating an account. After the plethora of trash homer posts on here about players being great/elite I decided to jump on for a little conversing and a little trolling. I have found that there isnt much of an analytic twist to things from the beginning of my time here until now.

You guys cry about how other sites vote you down, and how this site is full of juveniles, yet the same es are USING EMOTICONS (is that even the right word?) when someone posts a halfway decent point, or if you don't agree. There is no difference in what the "regulars" do here to what the mods do elsewhere.

Please direct me to a sound post by a member with 10k+ posts. You probably cannot because there are none. These are the same people who aren't here to talk basketball, but are here to "vote you down" or "bury the thread."

The only problem I see, is that no one really understands that nothing here can be proven. ITS ALL OPINION, no matter how many stats you have to back it up. Statistics, sorry for the 1 person on here that understands the concept, are a mathematical PROJECTION of an OCCURRENCE which means, frankly, none of the you people claim to be your PROOF aren't even facts.

You are literally debating an opinion of random events that would never be duplicated and pretending you know the outcome. It's funnier than really, to watch the people with THOUSANDS of POSTS pretend to change the opinion of some fat 40 year old with a GED, then get stiff about it.

Now quick, someone classy follow this post up with an emotional picture, like any really classy person would do.

Slomo with the emo bads tbqh. This place needs an owner/moderator that can set even basic rules (such as not using phobic and ethnic slurs) and be more present to enforce them. Spurstalk has always been and will always be a site for diversity of opinion where takes are just part of the game. But that doesn't mean this site should be run totally unen bered.

Using basic or advanced statistics to strengthen your point/argument is a classic debate tactic. And that's what we're here to do...talk sports, state an opinion and debate it. Using rationale thought or even common sense in lieu of baseless emo overreaction shouldn't be discouraged imho. Especially when that baseless emo reaction is accompanied by slurs and personal attacks tbqh.

I'm not referencing you specifically, or even a specific sub-group (e.g. GNSF), as offenders fwiw.

Not much to add, but I appreciate the forum for its lack of censorship. There isn't any other board out there like it.

phobic/racial remarks aren't meant seriously on here anyway. They're just used as devices to add levity.

tbf, upstairs used to be kept more clean up to last season... nowadays it looks a lot more like the playground that's downstairs...

the reality is that it's easy to skip past the garbage... or simply use the ignore list, tbh...

Honestly, some of the tiest posters on SpursTalk are some of the "old-school" posters..they're lost without the ability to tickle timvp's balls, that was the content of most of their posts..
So true... The "golden age" of Spurstalk is only about two posters, Bruno and timvp, the rest don't bring anything to the table, most of them don't even have any real bball takes. Ask EVAY about the best rotation going forward or what she thinks is the best defense on Lebron and she won't care, that's not how she lives her fandom. Her fandom is about celebrating the greatness of the spurs bar none.

The reason SpursTalk isn't as good, in the eyes of a lot of "old-school" posters is simply because the Spurs haven't won a le in 7 years, and are at the end of the line..the choking from 2011 to 2013 also brought opposing trolls, along with a legion of cliff jumping Spurs fans..

The behavior of fanbases on the internet is generally intertwined with the success of their team in real life..once Duncan retires, most Spurs fans won't exist on the Internet, realistically speaking..
I don't know about that, few would remain but then again some of the worst teams in history like the TWolves still have fans caring and posting about them...

I think the forum is trending away from the sentimental rose colored glasses takes towards a more cutthroat analysis approach and that's getting more and more radical with the clock ticking... But hey if you can't handle it then there's the perfect alternative where any criticism/negativity is forbidden, where only a select few are allowed to write their thoughts for the others, it's called Pounding the Rock... And if you want something even more politically correct then there's 48moh. But like EVAY said, she doesn't simply want to switch to PTR, she want to shut down Spurstalk . If you look at her takes historically, she couldn't even always handle timvp's level of criticism, she made it a point to white-knight TP no matter how he played... So it's no wonder she wants to shut down the whole website now... That's such a religious approach to her fandom... She doesn't even seem like a bad person/poster or anything, just very rigid minded...

I don't like everything about the recent spurstalk but I'll take the liberty of tone over anything, really sets it apart from the other fan blogs... It was already like that in the timvp era where he called a spade a spade and a tired old bad a tired old bag... And the racists shticks are not coming from new posters either...

I think one account per ip address would help

I posted more before because I had more free time at work. I also have a family now so I am here less
I liked the people here that posted more before. I liked the chats we had. Now I post when I can but this place was better back then. less trolls and more controlling. still on of the best places for spurs talking though lots of traffic
Wow, ducks, been reading some of your last messages, man, they sound much more mature and coherent xDDD than those from previous years. Maybe it's that family you have now, love can do wonders xD

I acompletely agree with op. I've been reading this forum for the last 4, maybe 5 years, posting very little, and all I've seen is more and more trolling (the one that's not funny), and less and less good stuff.

Someone mentioned the team's sucess and failures having an influence, that's a good observation. That has obviously had an important impact on the board.

I think it has become difficult for a lot of these old-school users to continue posting and thriving without the ability to provide brilliant takes, such as:

    "Omg, great post timvp"

    "I agree with everything, timvp"

    "Great take, timvp"

"I hate X player because timvp hates him"

"That G2G was so much fun, wasn't it, timvp?"

"Your family is so beautiful, timvp, Kori Ellis is the perfect wife"

"We need game thoughts timvp, where are the grades?!"

It's sad that a place like reddit has exponentially better spurs and sports discussion. But I guess that's what happens when you have proper moderation and self regulation.
Tbh, if I only read this line in your post I'd assume you had some sort of mental deficiency.

There is absolutely zero actual discussion of the Spurs on Reddit. If at any point you try to delve into why the Spurs are having problems you get hit with a horde of popsuckers saying "I don't know, but in Pop we trust. You must obviously be wrong." If you bring up any of the actual mistakes Pop has made throughout the years you get hit with the same circular logic.

's pathetic imo. A bunch of 14-21 year olds trying to feel like they're superior to the common fan by riding the Spurs because they're such a good "team." That passing . Those fundamentals .

There is some legit posters still posting with very good opinions formulated from watching a lot of Basketball and a more advanced look at statistics rather than regurgitating opinions from sportswriters etc. Look no further than Chinook, El Nono, Mugen, Malik Hairston, baseline bum etc.. There is many more, off top of my head those are a few.

I don't understand why you would have a whinge about this without providing anything of substance yourself?

    Also, Charles Oakley

Didn't realise LJ had health troubles. Thought it was mostly the kids. Hope you get better!

I was so disappointed after game 7 last year I stopped coming regularly. Been a lurker most of the time anyway due to work and family commitments.

I somewhat agree with the drop in the number of posts that are thought-provoking, although that is mostly related to the two best-known writers/analysts dropping off spurstalk (Bruno and TimVp). I miss those in-depth stat-analysing posts the most.

However, good quality content is still around - Harlem and El nono have taken up the flag to their credit.

My main issue is that there are lots of new names I don't recognise, thus making it less compelling to open threads if the subjects don't look appealing.

There was a recent stat analysing post that I quite enjoyed from a 'new' comer, I.e. a handle I don't recognise. Props to the new generation.

Winning it this year would wipe away the bitter disappointment of the past few years where the Spurs teetered on the edge of a championship.

Go spurs go... We need at least one of the "new" three to step up in order to win... The big three are already doing what they can but can't play big minutes anymore. Kawhi, Green and Splitter must step up!

As some one who has been here since nearly the beginning, I am absolutely saddened at what this site has become. I know you guys have had the policy of limited moderation since the beginning but because of that policy, the inmates now ruin the asylum.

Before, Mouse and his trolling was the were expectation while the board talked Spurs and sports. Intellectual discussions were had. Now, it's girls trolling trolls and racists being racists and s being s and oh hey, there's a semi well thought out Spurs post... a now it's been reduced to a fest of juvenile bile.

The NBA forum used to be the wastepin for idiots, trolls and racists. It was called downstairs for a reason. Now, this place is a single story dwelling.

I know LJ had/has health problems and you have a growing family but your absence to this forum has been it's downfall.

It's sad that a place like reddit has exponentially better spurs and sports discussion. But I guess that's what happens when you have proper moderation and self regulation.

I doubt much will come of my rant besides a bunch of pathetic trolls insulting me, so I don't even know why I'm doing this.

    Shrug.
    You are absolutely 100% correct.
I have been saying much the same for a while now, and decided a while back to start bashing the trolls as much as possible as a consequence, but that is like a drop in the bucket for all the good it has accomplished.

All they need here to bring this site back up to the grandeur it once had is a little competent moderation.

If they made me and a few other mature intelligent long time posters mods, then heads would roll and decent posters would flock back in droves.
But do not make the trolls mods. That would result in what is going on now, inmates running the asylum.

These points are also true for the most part. IMHO there NEEDS to be a little moderation for this site to last.
Everyone I talk to and mention this site have the same criticism, that it has gravitated DOWN to become known as the "troll forum or site".
You may disagree, but that appears to be the overwhelming consensus.
    It is what it is.
Those "trolls" on here are going to do what they do. Why? Because they can, and there will be no consequences to their actions, i.e. bans.
I suppose every good thing must eventually end, sad to say.

not sure why Slomo is going off on Evay tbh

For one, Evay is one of the good poster of the spurs forum, he mostly talks about basketball, doen't throw slurs in his posts and doesn't create a thread every hour poluting first page of the forum every time he has a fart brain.

For two, I'm not ok with all he wrote in this thread but he is just giving his two cents in a thread made for that. Besides he is just saying what a lot are thinking and saying all year long. If, by the way, you think this thread is not appropriated just lock it.

For three I just at the "if you are not happy do something about it". What can he do tbh ? create a crew ? Slomo chose the wrong guy for using this kind of argument. Evay is one of the guy bringing something on the table.

POs ST suck this year, it is what it is. Harlem despite all his trolling at least create threads where there is bb discussion, Chinook is trying too, a few others the rest is garbage and overtaking the readable stuff.

I like ST, I'm grateful for kori, LJ and all the ones working to maintain it. It is because I care that I'm giving my humble opinion. Oh don't come with your "do something about it"
I agree with you, but I think EVAY is a she, not a he

I agree 100%. I was thrilled when I first found Spurstalk. Seemed like a great place to discuss the Spurs with fellow fans. But instead, there are so many hateful people and disrespectful comments. The lack of moderation is unacceptable. This site allows ... no, invites hostility because unacceptable takes aren't deleted, racist posters aren't banned, and those emoticons -- my goodness, those emoticons -- so disrespectful and inflammatory. Why are they allowed?

I stopped posting after last season's finals but have lurked now and then. The site has gone from bad to worse ... no, make that from bad to fatally flawed. Seriously, someone needs to pull the plug on this site. The ignore list is not nearly adequate enough to make this site tolerable.
Case in point ... EIGHT PAGES of hateful crap takes about the Hispanic kid singing the national anthem. That post should have been deleted immediately! People with racist and offensive comments should have their ability to post blocked!

By not taking these steps, the site owners and mods are implying they endorse such remarks. This is not rocket science. It's running a website 101. There is no accountability, no discipline (as in banning people with offensive posts). This all falls squarely on the mods and site owners. If you can't keep up with moderating comments, then shut it down, for everyone's good.

For all you lowlifes who would argue "Just leave the site if you don't like it." -- that's not good enough. Not nearly good enough.

I've the voice of reason. I'm Keepin' it real. And I say this site needs to come down. The whole site is a cancer ... all you unacceptable posters are cancer cells ... and it's time for some massive chemotherapy.

Site owners: it's time to do the right thing -- nuke this site, permanently.

    Sincerely,
    A lifelong Spurs fan

P.S. For the few good posters on here, check out pounding the rock if you haven't already done so. Great moderation. You can post takes without having to worry about all the filth and venom you get here.

I post on PTR, as well as Spurs Report, and you are 100% correct. There are the vast majority of respectful, mature, intelligent, and civil posters on those sites, but especially so on PTR.
Things change. SR lost to this site because they OVER moderated, and this site became an oasis.
Now the tide has turned and this site has gone down the toilet for the opposite reason, it has sorry to say become a raging cesspool. Just go to The Club to see examples of this.
Some trolls on here will say "you are one of the worst trolls on here", but that would ONLY be true if you feel that "fighting back" against the over preponderance of trolls, is "trolling".
But what else can you do? Get out and go to another site? I already do that.
Try to fight back? I do that too.
Ask to be a moderator and do it from within? I have asked.
It just seems like the owners are too busy to take responsibility for what has happened IMHO.
All things change, it is what it is.

I'm pretty sure this site is in the process of being sold. Spurstalk isn't free and I can't see a once proud pasionate site owner paying for something he doesn't even want to be a part of.

"We need game thoughts timvp, where are the grades?!"

    it still hurts

I think you might be correct.
While no one really knows all the particulars except those intimately involved in the matter, whether due to a settlement of some nature or some other reason, it is reasonable to make the assumption you make.
