IMO, the best mexican food in town is all fast food.
We might just go to Alamo Cafe and not worry about searching for a place.![]()

Taco Cabana is frequently graced by my presence.
That is what we always do!We might just go to Alamo Cafe and not worry about searching for a place.![]()
You might want to try Jacala on West Avenue between I-10 and Frederickburg. I think they close after 11 or 12 on Saturday. Good food and decent atmosphere and bar.
La Fogata is pretty damn good food and it's not too bad on the patio on a cool night. The inside is ok.
At El Jarro, which has a great atmosphere (make reservations), they have a live band on weekends but not loud to the point that you can't have a conversation at a normal volume with the people at your table. Yes the menu does stray from standard mexican (the last time I was there I had something like beef medallions in a chipotle/wine cream sauce and garlic mashed potatoes) but if you stare at the menu really hard, they have a "hidden" section where they have the regular mexican food at almost regular prices ($6-$10).
Cha-Cha's on Bandera is small. The atmosphere is ok but the food is great. The last time I went, they had karaoke but the same four people kept going up and I don't want to be mean but the quality of their singing was slightly more pleasant than fingernails dragged across a chalkboard.
Rosario's is the hip spot to go, especially if they have a salsa band playing. It's always been a see-and-be-seen type of place but I haven't been there in a while. The advantage there is that you can wander over to Azuca to listen to live Latin music or if Rosario's seems a bit too highbrow (it's not), you can always wander down to Bar America to drink $1.25 beer among fellow degenerates .That's a joke because I like the place but its filled with younger people who will eventually be the 50 and 60 year olds that will still go down to the neighborhood ice house (that could be good or bad).
Rosario's is too loud because we kind of want to talk.
We are going to Los Barrios.
Thanks for all the suggestions.
Good choice Kori! It's the best!
Why Los Barrios?

ha ha ha ha run for the border....
a really good place to eat mexican food is La Fonda in Oakhills. Right off 410 and Fredericksburg. They close at 10pm, but if you show up at 9:59, they will still seat you and serve you until you are finished. They been open since like 1940 something. Reasonably priced and they have fresh squeezed margaritas. no sweet n sour bull .
I hear La Fonda has some nice Hispanic waitresses too
And La Fogata and Mi Tierra are the most overpriced places in town. You should never pay much for mexican.. Pappasitos is bull too..
last time i was there, they were all hispanic, but none were nice looking. they had all been there like 10-20 years. pretty crazy for a restaurant
Pappasitos is more than just a mexican restraunt though they are freaking delicious and i dont get diarhea when im done eating it
We like the Saulsalito's on Nacodoches.
But then my cheap ass doesn't like guacamole. It reminds me of mocos.
We used to go to Tomatillo's when we lived closer.
and I love a Cabana Bowl when I got the muchies.
pappasitos is white people's mexican food.
I like Batman2883's kitchen cause that cat can throw down in the kitchen like no other, even makes homemade tortillas
Cheap labor doesn't always mean cheap food.![]()
man anyone that freaking makes some mean lobster and shrimps in a mexican restraunt definitly gets my vote and trust me yall dont know white people mexican food. I was in Orlando last summer i went to some place called Don Pablos big Mexican restraunt....all i have to say when i finished eating there, i was begging for a Taco Bell
i ordered some enchiladas verdes at a "mexican" restaurant in germany once.. they were filled with spinach! wtf???
ha ha ha ha man what the are you doing eating mexican food in Germany, you were suppose to be eating Cordon Bleu or Bratwurst or something
hey, we'd been without for so long, we decided to try it out. plus, all the hot chicks would hang out there so we would hang there. we never ate... one day we figured we'd try it out..
