And I would expect that if any of those guys palyed against Nowitski or dalembert or blair their stats should be 20-10 in the series, or are those three elite defenders?
If I gave you the stats below and told you, this is playoff series per game stats, which one makes 10 million a year and which makes 1 million a year pick the salary, would you try, or would you be baffled that one player makes 10 times as much money as the other. But seriously though, which one would you take?
9/9/3STL
10/8/2Assist

years were important to him
I somewhat agree with you, but to me, SA overpaid for Splitter. I know hes a fit, and I wouldnt want him off the team, per se, but 10 million for not being able to play in the finals, or against OKC, is not what Im looking for in a 10 mil guy. And I think that your point about Diaw is on, and a reason why 10 mil is too much. How do you justify to Diaw that he cant get paid as much as Splitter, when he was obviously more important to SA success than Splitter....
Yes man. Concerned about this stupid Meeks contract will really jack up the $$$ for re-signing Mills. Well actually, with that shoulder injury, who knows.
I don't deny that. Diaw is probably the most important player outside of Kawhi, Manu and Duncan in this playoffs run.
Splitter was huge in the first two series, but not so much in the second 2 series. Still, for what he did in those first two rounds and the little he did contribute in the WCF and Finals, I still think his contract was definitely earned this past season.
I think there is a positive correlation between how much basketball knowledge a poster has and how much he appreciates Splitter. The Splitter haters are mostly trolls, some of them fans of other teams. Some other haters are just ignorant kids who look at stats/hyped up monkeyballers and donīt care much about passing, team play, setting screens or defense. Or they believe that if you are not on the same level as Duncan in his prime you cannot play. Splitter just keeps ting on them tbh. I love it.
Seems like players get $2M more than what we expect them to get. If theoretically we push for Diaw around mid-level money he probably gets $6-$8M. Anything more than that is a payday, but I can't blame him because he played well in the playoffs. I'm surprised the Pistons paid Meeks $18/3y though. I mean, wow.
IIRC Gortat wanted to play for the Spurs. Or at least was enthused by the team.
So you're saying the Spurs shouldn't have matched the Blazers offer sheet and replaced Splitter with someone for the MLE?
Spurs don't go past Dallas in such a scenario.
Splitter is fairly paid for the job he does - excellent defender, both in the post and team defense, decent rebounder, decent finisher, great passer, calm demeanor. Fits the team perfectly, doesn't fit some series against teams that go small a lot. So be it.
Gortat was probably overpaid for a 30yo, but he started playing big minutes in the NBA late in his career so you never know, he might still be effective at 35. I'm surprised they signed him for that long - 4 years would have made more sense - but I guess they offered that extra year to avoid a bidding war luring him away. Also, it is the Wizards, so maybe it was just incompetence.![]()
Gortat started playing basketball when he was 17. He was a soccer goalkeeper before but he grew to big. In Poland they speculate that the fifth year from Was was due to two big contract offers from MIami and Lakers. Around 4/48. He has a house in Orlando and lives there in the offseason and always says that he prefers a warm climate. The Was reps got scared and they came to Poland on saturday when they participated in his bbl camp and made the deal. For the moment Gortat isnt overpaid by any means. The problem with him is that he can be by the 4th or 5th year of this contract. His game relies on his athletic abillity which is very good for a 7ft guy(can dunk from the free trow line). He still has couple years in his prime to figure it out.
Wow. If Miami offered 4/48, why wouldn't here go there for the same amount of money per year? Was that last year really that important to him?
They are in "win now" mode and HAD to keep him around. One of those weird scenarios where a player has more leverage to get paid to stay than they would as a free agent.
It's his first and last big payday by nba standarts so my guess would be yes.Very important.
They are pretty close statistically. Like all Spurs, Splitter's per game numbers are lower because no Spur plays that many minutes.
Per 36 minutes, Gortat is 14.5 pts, 10.4 rebs. Splitter 13.7, 10.3. WS/48 - Gortat .136, Splitter .163 (An average player is .100).
And anyone who doubts that the Spurs had a historic playoff run - Splitter's Offensive Rating for the playoffs was 136! Spur's team was 112.7
Interesting background, thanks.
Don't get me wrong, I really like Gortat and he will be fairly paid for the next few years. Like you, I think he might be overpaid near the end of the contract, but that often happens in the NBA. It's the price you pay for signing an FA teams really want.
I forgot to watch that series.

Jesus wut?
Splitter is the best pick and roll defending big man, he's also one of, if not the best passing big men (not counting Boris) in the league. Did you miss the Dallas and Portland series?
Thinking bigs in general are overpaid is a fair take.
Thinking Splitter is overpaid in the current NBA makes you a complete ing re .
Miami is going to explode when the Big 3 look elsewhere. Things aren't going as planned so far.
