It's pretty simple: you were either speeding or you weren't.

If you were, then suck it up buttercup and pay the fine.
and if i wasn't? i cant just walk into court and say "i wasn't speeding, the cop is wrong "

    hence the thread

I'm in California. I can't just take a defensive driving class instead of paying the ticket . It's not a matter of being self righteous

And for everybody saying "pay the ticket" please read the le of the thread
This says you can go to traffic school to get rid of it:

If you’ve received a traffic ticket, your California county traffic court may allow you to complete traffic school to*dismiss the citation and avoid having points added to your driving record.*

    http://www.dmv.org/ca-california/traffic-schools.php
If you think you might lose, then I'd say do this.

Traffic school is worse than a root canal. I did one good one, up at the mall community room. I kept going to the bathroom and walking the mall. I'd come back stay 20, then window shop for 20 minutes. Otherwise I'd a went out of my mind.

you still have the pay for the ticket and then take traffic school afterwards. it removes it from your record (handy for insurance and to keep points low), but you still pay the full ticket AND go to traffic school.

again, i was asking if people here had experience in fighting tickets, what specific strategies they've used in court. i'm not asking for how to proceed

Bro, read the quote he provided. It clearly says the ticket would be dismissed.

You can't just go up there with a DD certificate though. At least here the judge has to let you know if you qualify for it first, then you'd have to make a return trip at an agreed date to show you've completed it. You probably would qualify though since you mentioned you have a clean record otherwise.

    Court costs =/= ticket costs

What happens if you choose traffic school

In general, if the court lets you go to traffic school for an eligible offense and you complete the course by the due date,*you should not get any points on your driving record. If you have a noncommercial license, a confidential conviction will appear on your driving record. If you have a commercial driver’s license, a conviction will appear on your driving record.*If you agree to go to traffic school, you will have to pay the court an administrative fee. You will also have to pay the traffic school a fee.*

Well you're being vague on if you feel you're guilty or not.

What do you think a lawyer would tell you?

you are ing dense. any shmoe can walk into a court and say "i didnt do it"... regardless of whether or not they are innocent. i could have been going exactly 60 mph, but i cant just walk into court, say that, and expect to win. the purpose of this thread was to see if anybody here had contested a speeding ticket, and just pick their mind on how they went about it. instead, here we are

that's fantastic. i know how traffic school works. you still pay the court the fee, which is essentially the price of the whole ticket. for a basic speeding ticket the base fee is like $35 or something low like that, and the rest is "court fees"

with the court fee + traffic school you are basically playing the full price of the ticket. the good part is it doesn't show up on your record and you don't get a point on your license.

Usually I'd say fight it, since the cop probably wouldn't even show up and you'll easily get it reduced, tbh, but a 300 mile trip? Just pay the ticket, how is that even a question?..not worth the trip, at all..take the L, son, too much pride..

It seems like you want to walk out without paying anything BUT you're completely against the only scenario that might yield that result (going in and saying you weren't speeding). What kind of solutions you were expecting us to respond with?

was thinking i could make a trip of it in the spring/summer months after extensions and all

i'm not against going in and arguing, but simply walking in and saying "i wasn't speeding" when the cop says "you were speeding" isn't going to get done. there are specific ways people contest tickets, and thats what this thread was for. instead its people doing everything except what i asked for

The judge wipp ask for your side of the story after you plead not guilty and say you weren't speeding. Come on, that should be understood already.

not sure tbh, i'll see when it comes in the mail or i contact the court. if the amount is lower than anticipated, it would make the decision easier. friend of mine paid north of $350 for a red light, not sure how speeding typically compares to that. i just think since it was in such an isolated area, they just write up tickets knowing people aren't going to bother to contest, and thats what pisses me off.

you're a judge, and somebody contested a speeding ticket. they show up to court. the cop says "i clocked him going 75 on radar." you ask the other guy, he says "i was going 65."

how do you think that ends?
