39-yo Duncan is still more reliable in the post than Kawhi is at shooting wide open jumpers... got

Those stats don't disprove my point.

    This is about eating space...
    They do actually.

You also need to understand that a big ALWAYS needs to be in the vicinity of a driving lane to seal off potential shotblockers, which Duncan is a master at. I remember Kobe fans using this exact same stupid argument. " Shaq held Kobe back because he clogged the lane Fact is, Kobe was at his penetrating best when Shaq was there because Shaq was also a master at sealing off opposing bigs. It's no surprise Kobe's 0-3 FG% dropped from about .650 to .600 following Shaq's departure. Then when Gasol, another master at the seal, came on board, Kobe's 0-3% popped right back up to that level.

That said, you have a point that there should never be two paint bigs on the floor at the same time (Duncan/Baynes, Duncan/Splitter, Splitter/Baynes, etc) and that a paint big paired with a stretch 4 (Diaw or Bonner) will improve spacing and open up the lanes, but the team's penetration struggles go far beyond just simple spacing. We might have the least athletic wings out of all the contending teams, and that's what hurting scoring right now. Before, we could get away it with it since Parker was an elite penetrator and Manu wasn't near death. But now that those two have massively regressed, we will have trouble penetrating, regardless of the spacing.

I haven't seen the willingness to seal of defenders from tim this year at all..

even funnier is how he would insist on a PnR when Kawhi is posting...that is disgusting.

Sadly, I have to agree with the OP, tbh..

Tim is my favorite player of all-time, but he's an Al Jefferson type of stat-padder these days..

    Where's your evidence of that?

    You have none.

You're just going to have to accept that Kawhi is an average offensive player and champion the qualities that actually make him a top 15 player in the league (I still stand by that): defense, defense, defense, rebounding, steals, shotblocking, and creating chaos all over the floor.

I do admit I cringe when Tim is in the post now, but I haven't noticed him clogging the lane. His shot was on point the other night against LA, I would like to see him shoot those jumpers more often. He is probably shooting better than our starting small forward, shooting guard and point guard right now.

What you don't think TD insist on a pick with Kawhi in the post? Man you must have missed a ton of games..

I see it differently. You just look for any slight against Kawhi because you're a blind fanboy of the highest order.

Show me some data that illustrates Kawhi's close shot percentage and drive opportunities goes down when Duncan is in the game. The only data we have that can kind of quantify this is RPM and 82games.com 5 man floor units. Kawhi sees a great deal of floor time alongside Duncan, and Kawhi ranks 10th in RPM. And the best 5 man floor unit the Spurs have includes Duncan and Kawhi. Duncan is not "holding Kawhi back" in any manner.

The real culprits, per the 82games 5 man unit data, seems to be when Pop features a lineup with Belinelli and when Ginobili and Parker are paired together in the backcourt. Interestingly, the worst lineups always feature Parker/Ginobili, even when they're alongside Kawhi/Duncan and a stretch 4 (Diaw or Bonner). So issues with this team go further than spacing. Our twin tower lineups don't fair too badly as long as Green is on the floor and Belinelli is off of it.

    a fanboy?

TD has consistently killed the kawhi post because of his insistence to turn it into a PnR..you'd have to be the fanboy to not see that.

Proof? Show me at least 20 clips, since you claim it happens so much.

And I'm also puzzled why you think posting up a wing player is a solid idea in the year 2015? Wings hardly post anymore unless you're Kobe Bryant, who is still stuck in 2009.

You can criticize Duncan post-ups. I'm fine with that, since I'm not a fan of running an post up offense through any player in today's game. Post ups should be used very selectively in the modern NBA. They stagnate the offense too much and are too easy for a defense to counter. I thought you were one of those "forward thinking" fans against antiquated styles of basketball?

I guess you're not if it means Kawhi can potentially add a few points to his PPG.
