Every chance I get I always try. To save it but it's gone after a day or two.
Anyone remember tangerine dream?
Wish You Were Here and Dark Side of the Moon are my favorites. I'm old so I've seen these guys live a couple of times back in the 70's. Quite an experience.
Not underrated imo. My favorite Floyd track.
Yippee. You can't see me. But I can you.
This song seems like an obvious attempt of the money overlords of Pink to copy the Beatles? Or vice versa?
Indeed Barett according to Wiki:
Barrett, reportedly, was not happy with the final studio cut, and he protested against its release, which producer Norman Smith speculated was based on his fear of commercialism.
Tremendous song. That guitar tone/riff is killer.
And I'm not really surprised to see a lot of people mentioning The Wall, what with its "cultural importance" (artistic pretension), but it really is the beginning of their downfall, in my opinion. Some good/great songs, but a historic amount of filler and a plot owing so much to The Who's Tommy that parts border on plagiarism.
As others have said, Syd Barrett just seems a much more interesting person with more to say (musically and lyrically) than Waters or Gilmour.
I tried to listen to Piper last night and it wasn't for me. Only made it through Lucifer Sam and gave up.
Fair enough. It's certainly not for everyone.
It's so unlike any other PF album that it may as well be a different band
Most psychedelic album out there. Will make your head spin. It lacks Gilmour's guitar playing. But makes up with imaginative lyrics and sound.
Yeah...in my mind, the Wall is Pink Floyd so this was a totally different experience. I did listen to Meddle last night which I guess is somewhere between and I did like it as it wasn't too unfamiliar a sound.
The Wall is most people's first exposure to Floyd. It was huge and the movie is a must see for every stoned teenager. However, looking back on it, I think it's pretty weak. Especially as a double album. The movie, barring the animation, is ing awful too.
You hit the nail on the head about The Wall. I remember we were at a party watching it for the first time and we ended up FF or Rew just to watch the animation. Of course most of the context was lost on a bunch of middle schoolers. And yeah...not a great double album but it did contain some great songs. Don't know how much financial success the band would have achieved without the push from The Wall (the song) getting wide radio play. I guess DSOTM still would have held its own.
The Wall is Roger Waters. Piper at the Gates of Dawn is Syd Barrett. So yeah expect a big difference in style.
Is it? Vast majority of Americans under the age of 30 are not aware the film exists
I think this image represents Pink Floyd to most Americans
and the most well known Pink Floyd song is "Wish you were here". So I don't think the Wall is as popular as you argue.
I was mostly talking about people who grew up in that era of Floyd. The Wall was very popular. Another Brick..., Comfortably Numb and Young Lust are classic rock radio staples. The vast majority of Americans under 30 are morons. I don't give a what they are aware of.
Geezer alert.
Oh okay understood.
The Wall is incredibly popular, perhaps one of the most well-know classic rock albums of all time.
Not sure how you could really argue otherwise
Moron alert.
Back off old man
Get off my lawn, you snot nose punk.
