I am a big fan of Conley, but that team needs to do some real hard staring at the mirror and be honest with themselves.
They are not a contender unless an unprecedented amount of injuries happen throughout the league.

    They aren't even close.

They need to move some guys they might have considered untouchable to change the dynamic of them as a whole and provide themselves with an avenue of progress, not stagnation.
they are similar to the Jazz of D' Will-Boozer of late 2000s..one lucky-ish trip to WCF but never good enough to challenge Lakers..That team ended up disbanding and rebuilding..Conley is a very solid PG but he doesn't have an elite feature that makes him untouchable while nearing his 30s..I think letting go of him isn't that risky of a quasi-rebuilding strategy.."Gasol + fill in the roster" should be the summer forward thinking move..

The fact is the FO sent out multiple future first round draft picks in "win now" moves the last few years, and now we are staring at a rebuild. Not a good situation to be in for a small market franchise.

I can definitely see (and not argue with) this happening.
The fans will probably consider that era a failure, but really they did great for a good, long time with what they had, in totality.
Their climb is definitely uphill from here.

I feel for you brother. It's a tough thing to have a team that's borderline in contender-type talent and also age.
You want to do everything you can to get past that hump, but the risk is an utter collapse looming.
The Spurs have walked that line better than any team I have ever seen for many years and a lot of that has to be attributed to luck on top of the endless work the team puts in.

Memphis looks like they don't have that kind of luck right now.

Good luck going forward friend. I've always liked your team.

laughably, their last pick that panned out, was mike conley in 2007. And they even passed on guys like kevin love to get oj mayo, harden curry and others to pick thabeet, bledsoe, bradley, whiteside to pick xavier henry, draymond green, kris middleton to pick tony wroten and so on. i don't know if they suck more at developing or drafting, but that's that.

Probably both, like 90% of the teams out there.

they have been slipping at a fast rate in what is the basic element of 'Grit'n Grind' without compensating on the other end...the core got old and this pretty natural result for standing pat..

Getting rid of Hollins was a mistake. It made no sense.
Some GMs looking really stupid at this point.

Hollins got Memphis to perennially over-achieve and got canned after reaching the WCF, and they haven't made it past round 2 since. Houston did the same with McHale who, despite his obvious defensive limitations, still got a lot done with that oft-injured Rockets club.

The changeup in Houston riled up the team for what...2 games? Now they continue to look like garbage, and the same thing is going to happen in Memphis. Thibs may fit their "grind-game" philosophy, but he still has the same old and tired roster to work with.

Joerger is a good coach. He's being thrown under the bus. Minnesota should snatch him up.
