The Long Walk would be a really good movie. I have wanted that one to be made into a movie for a long time.
I'd like to see movies made out of the Bachman books- Roadwork, The Long Walk and a version of The Running Man that's actually faithful to the book. They did make a movie out of Thinner but that's the worst of the Bachman books, IMO.

Did you read Hearts in Atlantis? They made a bomb movie out of that one, removed all Dark Tower refs from the first story. Just a horrible movie.
Yeah, that sucked. His movies could rival the Marvel Universe movies if he kept them all true to the books.
Btw they released the 1st pic pf the Losers club
Mike from Stranger Things is playing one of the kids, oooooo typecasting
Yeah, it's over for him. Kind of like the guy from Freaks and Geeks. The one with the glasses.
Yeah, I think Pet Cemetery, Green Mile, The Shining and Stand By Me are the exceptions. A lot of his stuff turned out pretty bad on screen. Never seen Salem's Lot but I always wanted to because it's one of my favorite books by him. But I can think of few movies that missed the mark quite as horribly as IT.
Okay USA!
Don't forget Shawshank. Apt Puplil wasn't bad either.
And don't forget that It was a made for network 2 parter.
Oh yeah...The Mist. I thought that was really good.
Seems like King's short stories work better for cinema. He's a natural storyteller but the book adaptations always seem lacking unless it's Kubrick doing his own thing. That Shining miniseries was so stupid
The Stand is probably the longest book I've read, I'd like to see them redo that with a bigger budget.
Never read IT, is it true the chick has to get bukkaked to beat Pennywise?
I remember watching a movie adapation of one of his books, the one with some weird fuzzy "balls"
Wtf was that![]()
Forgot le tbh
Langoliers. Another made for TV disaster.
the Langoliers
Tommyknockers was too
How was the book?
Didn't read the book but the premise was re ed anyway
Even King admitted later it's one of his worst books :lo l
I remember starting it but giving up pretty quick.
I think it's because for his longer books, the only suitable vehicle historically has been the TV mini series. They're just too long for a feature film (unless you're talking about the Shining which was totally altered for the movie, while the mini series was garbage, like you said). Outside of Lonesome Dove, most tv miniseries of decade past have been pretty bad. I think the time is right for some remakes of King's longer books. I would love to see Netflix, with all of its creative freedom and innovation, take on something like IT or The Stand. Could be what King fans have craved for years.
And yes, there's an infamous scene in the IT book in which the guys in Losers have a coming of age train with the one girl. We're all sitting here wondering if that scene will actually be included in the remake. lol
Yes! Shawshank OF COURSE! You could say that one worked out pretty well. lol
coming of age train, yeah not sure how you film a girl saying "shoot it all over me" as Pennywise is preying on them.
Agree that Netflix and HBO should try to adapt his stuff, that seems like the best fit. Another issue is that King is great at putting you inside the mind or psyche of a character and that's hard to translate to cinema. Things like internal dialogue get lost, so that's why his short stories are more successful imo, because they tend to have broader strokes so the director can fill in the rest.
I enjoyed Cat's Eye
Wow. I forgot about that. Couldn't remember what the stories were other than the one with the girl and the cat. Went back and looked at Night Shift which reminded me about Children of the Corn. Seems like the movie was allright. That particular story would be good for a remake I think.
Edit: Looks like there was a made for TV remake. I never saw it. Still think it would be good on the big screen again.
i've never seen 'it' is it any good?
I doubt it holds up at all today.
At that point King was drinking a case of Budweiser and snorting about a gram of cocaine every day. IIRC he barely remembers writing "The Tommyknockers." It isn't his worst book (it's better than "Firestarter" for example) but not his best, no.
