Political correctness, immigration, women's issues. Trying to insert intersectional feminism or refusing to talk frankly about Islamic terrorism are being flatly rejected. Pandering to fringe, idiotic "progressive" ideals seems to have hamstrung what should have been the adults in the room from saving us from insanity. The chickens have come home to roost. Thanks RG/Fuzzy/Winehole/Buttons, keep doing the lords work ...
You got one half of the story right (except for the "refusing to talk about Islamic terror" bit, given the number of drone attacks carried out by the US and unprecedented NSA powers, but I digress). Let me tell you the other half:

Fiscal intransigence, over-hyping free markets and free trade, constantly mixing Christianity with politics, preaching about family values, accusing your opponent of being authoritarian and petulant, wanting to stand up to Russia and push a more robust military response in Syria. The chickens came home to roost - not yesterday but during the primaries when the base threw out every one of these long-treasured party positions to embrace a con artist.

Yes, the red team won, but both party ideologies were taken to the woodshed by the message of hyper-nationalist populism delivered by a reality TV clown.

I agree with a lot of this. Appealing to fringe, far-right ideals certainly facilitated King Trump's coronation. But Team Blue's inability to stop a reality TV clown is truly pathetic and shows the bankruptcy of some of its agenda items.

I would disagree though about the issue of Islam. Yes, we have a robust drone program -- that has nothing to do with the civic discussion being had in this country about islamic extremism.
